The Horticulture Instructor position is a part-time position located primarily at the Tyson Family Center for Technology in Monroe, NC. Under the direction of the Compass Education Director, the Horticulture Instructor is responsible for delivering direct instruction to students with diverse skill levels, maintaining a positive and engaging classroom environment, and managing the upkeep of the garden area, tools, and supplies.
Essential Duties Summary
- Plan and facilitate related curriculum, lesson plans, and assignments
- Communicate material in a positive and appropriate learning environment
- Provide direct instruction, small group, and individualized educational activities for students
- Maintain required paperwork including, but not limited to, roster, attendance documents, lesson plans and time sheets
- Maintain garden area, tools, and supplies
- Communicate with Compass Education Director and other College and Career Readiness staff, as appropriate
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree and a minimum of one year experience in horticulture or a related field or high school diploma and a minimum of two years experience in horticulture or a related field
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to perform multi-task assignments
- Ability to work positively and cooperatively with students and colleagues
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Teaching experience
- Experience working with individuals with diverse skill levels
