Overview
Under the supervision of the Empowerment Coach supervisor, the Housing Services Coordinator is responsible for working closely with the case management and intake staff in order to assist families participating in our organization’s services in identifying appropriate housing opportunities. The Housing Services Coordinator provides training to clients in regards to different housing opportunities, budgeting, maintaining a household, and others that are deemed necessary.
As an integral part of the Housing Services Coordinator’s responsibilities, this person is required to maintain relationships with landlords, private and non-profit, who will work with the organization’s clients. The Housing Services Coordinator works collaboratively with the organizational team, as well as with representatives from the County Department of Housing and Community Development, County Department of Family Services, County Department of Community and Recreation Services, and with representatives of other non-profit agencies and the faith community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain a Housing Directory which should at minimum include documentation of all contacts with housing providers including: corporation name if applicable, name of contact, address, phone, date of contact and results of contact
- Provide housing availability to the organization’s team in an efficient and timely manner
- Assist families as needed during their move into permanent housing. Such assistance may include accessing rental assistance money, donated furnishings, coordinating with volunteer movers, and coordinating transportation
- Provide housing counseling and budget training for clients to help prepare them for housing
- Develop trainings and workshops for clients and the organization’s staff, including tenant rights and responsibilities, housing discrimination, communicating with landlords and others
- Maintain documentation of trainings, budgets, housing contacts and other pertinent information in accordance with agency and best standard practice
- Follow up with all clients in the shelter regarding their housing options
- Work with the Intake & Rapid Exit Coordinator to assist clients on the county waitlist to explore alternative housing options and overcome barriers to housing
- Conduct shelter move-ins, county intakes, and crisis intakes in absence of the Intake & Rapid Exit Coordinator
- Research housing topics, collect and organize housing information for clients and organizational staff
- Conduct basic life skills workshops at the direction of supervisor
- Function as a contributing member of a multidisciplinary team with the organization’s employees, deployed staff, volunteers, and community agencies
- Assure all relevant information pertaining to clients is disseminated to all appropriate staff members in a timely fashion
- Complete changeover with incoming/outgoing staff by reporting days’ activities with goal of maintaining consistency throughout each shift
- Participate in staff meetings and trainings as directed by supervisor
- Be on-call status as directed by supervisor
- Other duties as assigned

INTERNAL/ EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:
- Ability to build a brad working relationship with staff, clients and other agencies
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, ABILITIES, AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED/ PREFEREED:
- Bachelor’s degree in human services, education, communications or related field. Experience with providing services to the homeless population preferred.
- Bi-lingual in Spanish and English required. Experience with providing services to the homeless and low-income population. The candidate must be able to develop strong working relationships with client population, be able to relate to individuals making significant life decisions, and be supportive of individuals’ increasing independence. Must also be able to provide effective training, prepare written reports, and maintain client documentation. Basic keyboarding and computer literacy required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with other agencies and a familiarity with issues of substance abuse and domestic violence.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of the issues faced by low-income populations.
- Strong ability to multi-task and make critical decisions without a supervisor present
- Positive attitude and strong empathy skills are necessary.
- The ability to develop client relations and show excellent hospitality to them.
- Computer literate; proficient in the use and operation of computers and basic MS applications (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook- Required
- Environmental Conditions: Some hours will be in a normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes; work requires travel and making home visits; computer use; work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions; responsibilities require a flexible work schedule including regular evening hours, occasional weekend hours and overtime. Some weekly evening hours are required.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:
- Must possess a valid California driver's license/minimum vehicle insurance required by law and maintained throughout the duration of employment. PLEASE NOTE: Current California's driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the Agency's insurance carrier, if required by job duties.
- Candidate must possess a current a CPR/ First Aide certificate or have the ability to obtain one within sixty days of becoming employed by the Center for Family Solutions.
- Annual TB tests required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bend, stoop and climb to reach supplies and files, to speak, hear and see for phone and office machines
- Lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines; good cognitive ability required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
