Job Responsibilities
The Independent Living Coordinator plans, implements and evaluates all aspects of the independent living component of the WinthropLIFE program, including facilitating individualized and group development, promoting life skills and coordinating with peer mentors and staff to support student success.
- Maintains individual data on student progress toward individualized goals.
- Assesses and addresses scaffolding needs for individuals and groups to achieve goals.
- Develops instructional materials and monitoring tools to support growth in areas such as conflict resolution, housekeeping, nutrition and personal hygiene.
- Coordinates the efforts of residential peer mentors and other supporting staff.
- Prepares reports for internal and external stakeholders, as required.
- Creates and implements programming in such areas as wellness, community engagement and navigating independent living services.
- Provides students with opportunities for practical skill application in real-life settings on and off campus.
- Collaborates with residential peer mentors and staff to deliver programming.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
High school diploma and six years of experience working in primary or secondary education and/or with individuals with intellectual disabilities; Associate’s degree and four years of experience in primary or secondary education and/or with individuals with intellectual disabilities; or Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in primary or secondary education and/or with individuals with intellectual disabilities; Valid driver’s license and vehicle.
- Knowledge of general cleaning equipment, chemicals and practices.
- Knowledge of and ability to communicate personal hygiene standards.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to use results-oriented planning, monitoring and assessment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the general public.
- Ability to cook meals using recipes and common kitchen equipment.
- Ability to model and safely support student exercise activities.
- Ability and willingness to be available occasionally outside business hours.
- Ability and commitment to planning, implementing and assessing short- and long-term student goals.
Additional Comments
Salary: $38,577 (8/1/2025 - 6/15/2026 each year)
