Industrial Designer

POSITION:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Industrial Designer to design and develop innovative and functional sporting goods products. This role involves leading prototyping and concept development, supporting market research and product usability, and elevating the brand through the implementation of CHAMPRO’s visual brand language. The Industrial Designer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, to understand and develop products, marketing strategies, and identify new product opportunities. Responsibilities include developing product features, benefits, and comprehensive product specifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Serve as the lead industrial designer on new product development projects focused on bringing new, innovative and desirable products to life while aligning with what is viable for the business and what is feasible to manufacture.
• Lead each phase of the design process including product discovery research, concept development, and the detailed design
• Create sketches and 3D prototypes to explore ergonomic, human factors and form issues.
• Create presentations that clearly communicate the authentic design story for each project to inform authentic storytelling across all commercialization strategies and marketing content creation.
• Actively research and monitor current sports equipment trends and the competitive landscape to design and develop new innovative products
• Take new products from conception to final tech package within a project schedule and budget
• Understand functional and regulatory product requirements and work with suppliers to achieve them
• Establish relationships with outside vendors and customers to help drive creative innovation
• Collaborate with the graphic team on the development of sales materials and packaging design
• Work with Product Managers to create and maintain product documentation, including detailed product specifications and technical packages

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design
• 3+ years of experience designing consumer products, ideally in the sporting goods industry
• Experience with being able to quickly ideate concepts and demonstrate ideas using 2D sketches
• Thorough understanding and experience with 3D CAD modeling and tech package development
• Experience developing both aesthetic and functional prototypes for end-user evaluation and testing
• Detail oriented with excellent organization and follow-through
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including experience working directly with executives and factories.
• Highly detail-oriented and proactive problem solver.
• Occasional domestic and international travel required
• Portfolio to be shared for review with hiring manager

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Foundational understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability rules for technologies like injection molding, compression molding, CNC, and others
• Experience designing and launching softgood products; from understanding traditional materials and accessories, to pattern making and construction methods
• Experience working with manufacturing partners in Asia to scope and develop new products
