State Fund is looking for an Information Technology (IT) Windows Engineer to provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 support of State Fund's Windows environment, utilized in mission-critical, business-critical and general purpose applications, in order to maximize uptime and minimize downtime.

As a Windows Engineer:

  • Working with the IT Manager, assist in planning, design, implementation, and operation of Windows Server in a virtualized environment
  • Participate in Infrastructure projects and participate in the specification of business requirements and implementation plans for technically advanced internetworking solutions.
  • Proposed solutions based on best practices to support both data center and distributed server infrastructures and desktop environments.
  • Lead the implementation of Windows projects, from both technical and communication aspects.
  • Develop complete solutions taking into account infrastructure, data protection, high availability, resource management, automation, disaster recovery, and application requirements.
  • Provide architectural expertise, direction, and guidance to team members. Design and deploy automation/workflow solutions in collaboration with Developers, QA Engineers, Release Managers, Deployment Managers, Project Managers and Operations staff.
  • Review network and system design for network security and other risks during course of projects. Serve as a liaison to vendors and/or third-party providers as assigned.
  • Documents the current and future solutions. Provides a consistent framework for business solutions.
  • Leverage automation framework to improve processes, automate deployment, and improve manageability of environment.
  • Review and assess new technologies as they apply to process automation.
  • Providing technical expertise for escalated events in a timely manner
  • Monitoring, analyzing, and resolving infrastructure system, and hardware/software issues
  • Lead and/or actively participate in the research, planning, and designing of various complex aspects of infrastructure projects
  • Lead and/or actively participate in the project management, installation, and implementation of infrastructure related projects to upgrade and update the current environment
  • Lead and /or participate in the delivery of required production and non-production hours support and services
  • Reporting network operational status by gathering, prioritizing information; managing projects and implementations.
  • Participate in problem management and root cause analysis and maintain 24x7 availability and monitoring of business system servers.
  • Provide after-hours maintenance and support, whenever required

New to state candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of the alternate salary range when applicable. Placement to alternate salary range may be based on education or experience identified in your state application.

Working Conditions

The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

Selected candidate(s) hired may be required to attend in-person Onboarding at our Vacaville office with expenses for attendance paid by State Fund.

Desirable Qualifications

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hands on experience with Windows Server Security and Hardening in both physical and virtual Infrastructure.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with server applications in a Microsoft and Linux networked environment.
  • At least 2 years technical implementation experience with storage technologies (SAN, FCP/ISCSI and NAS)
  • 3 years of experience with automation and scripting technologies.
  • Broad experience managing load balancers, networking devices, web applications, databases, and server management tools.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills
  • Project lead experience
  • High level of proficiency of operating systems, applications, network components and their interrelationships
  • General knowledge and experience with the installation and maintenance
  • High level of proficiency in general computer architecture (CPU, memory allocation, peripheral devises, I/O, etc.)
  • Ability to resolve complex IT problems and/or perform complex analytical studies
  • Ability to seek out independent resources of technical information to apply to on the job problems
