Job Summary
The Internal Auditor is responsible for conducting independent and objective audits of the bank’s operations, systems, and controls to ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. This role supports the Audit Committee and senior management by identifying risks, recommending improvements, and enhancing the overall control environment.
Key Responsibilities
· Plan and execute internal audits across 26 operational, financial, and IT areas.
· Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management, and governance processes.
· Prepare detailed audit reports with findings and actionable recommendations.
· Monitor remediation efforts and follow up on outstanding audit issues.
· Assist with regulatory exams and coordinate with external auditors.
· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of banking regulations and internal audit standards.
· Support the development of audit programs and risk assessments.
· Promote a culture of compliance and ethical conduct across the organization.
· Travel to subsidiary institutions and branches several days per month
· All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
· Preferred degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent banking experience
· Interest in pursuing additional certifications.
· Preferably 2+ years of audit experience in banking or financial services.
· Strong understanding of banking regulations (FDIC, FRB, OCC, etc.).
· Excellent analytical, communication, and report-writing skills.
· Team oriented and self-motivated, ability to problem solve and adapt as necessary
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and audit software tools.
· Ability to travel, usually day trips
