Why we need this role
The IT Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the implementation, administration, operational support, and continuous improvement of Active Directory and Microsoft 365 services, with particular focus on Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Azure, identity, collaboration, security, and service reliability.
The role translates approved architecture, security standards, and operational requirements into secure, standardised, supportable, and automated platform services. It works closely with Architecture, Cyber Security, Service Desk, application teams, and infrastructure operations to maintain stable services and deliver planned improvements
What you will do
1. Active Directory & Hybrid Identity
Manage Active Directory users, groups, GPOs, permissions, and domain services. Support AD health, replication, DNS, authentication, and domain controllers. Maintain AD security, recovery readiness, and disaster recovery processes. Support Microsoft Entra Connect/Cloud Sync and hybrid identity environments.
2. Microsoft 365 Administration
Administer Microsoft 365 identities, licensing, roles, and tenant services. Support Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive, and related workloads. Monitor service health, security, compliance, and tenant configurations. Perform administration, reporting, migrations, and troubleshooting using portals and PowerShell.
3. SharePoint Online & OneDrive
Manage SharePoint Online sites, permissions, governance, and lifecycle policies. Troubleshoot access, sharing, search, sync, and storage issues. Support information architecture, external collaboration, and site compliance. Execute SharePoint/OneDrive migrations and automate administration using PowerShell.
4. Exchange Online Administration
Administer mailboxes, groups, mail flow, permissions, and Exchange configurations. Troubleshoot mail delivery, connectivity, and calendar-related issues. Manage email security, compliance, retention, SPF/DKIM/DMARC, and migrations. Use Exchange Admin Center and PowerShell for administration, reporting, and automation.
5. Azure Cloud Operations
Administer Azure resources, access controls, governance, and subscriptions. Manage VMs, storage, networking, backup, monitoring, and recovery services. Implement security, automation, cost optimization, and infrastructure-as-code solutions. Support Azure Key Vault, identities, landing zones, and operational improvements.
6. Identity, Access & Security
Manage Microsoft Entra ID users, groups, roles, and enterprise applications. Support MFA, SSPR, Conditional Access, passwordless authentication, and PIM. Investigate authentication, access, federation, and device registration issues. Support compliance, security audits, access reviews, and vulnerability remediation.
7. Operational Support & Continuous Improvement
Provide L2/L3 support for Identity, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and Azure platforms. Perform root cause analysis, incident resolution, and change management. Develop documentation, runbooks, SOPs, and PowerShell automation. Monitor platform performance, security, licensing, vendor support, and operational risks.
What we're looking for
Essential
- Practical experience administering Active Directory Domain Services and Microsoft 365 in an enterprise environment.
- Strong knowledge of AD DS, Group Policy, DNS, authentication, replication, permissions, domain controller operations, and hybrid identity.
- Hands-on administration of Microsoft 365, including core tenant administration, licensing, service health, and PowerShell.
- Hands-on experience with SharePoint Online site administration, permissions, external sharing, governance, lifecycle, and migration support.
- Hands-on experience with Exchange Online recipient administration, mail flow, email protection, authentication standards, migration, and troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience supporting Azure subscriptions, virtual machines, networking, storage, monitoring, backup, governance, and access control.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID, Conditional Access, multifactor authentication, enterprise applications, and privileged access principles.
- PowerShell scripting skills for administration, reporting, bulk updates, validation, and automation.
- Good understanding of ITIL-aligned incidents, problem, request, change, and knowledge-management practices.
- Strong analytical troubleshooting skills with the ability to document findings and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage priorities, take ownership of issues, and deliver secure and supportable outcomes.
Desirable
- Experience with Microsoft Defender for Office 365, Exchange Online Protection, Microsoft Purview, and security/compliance integrations.
- Advanced experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Key Vault, Azure Policy, backup, automation, and governance controls.
- Exposure certificate services, PKI, Network Policy Server, federation, identity governance, or privileged access workstations.
- Experience with migration tooling and large-scale tenant, endpoint, SharePoint, OneDrive, or identity transformation projects.
- Relevant Microsoft certification such as Endpoint Administrator, Identity and Access Administrator, Microsoft 365 Administrator, Azure Administrator, or equivalent practical expertise.
