Siemens
$90,300 - $100,000 a year
Sacramento County, California
Full time

Pioneering in America, from the first mile to the last. This is what drives us!

For more than 160 years, Siemens has been an integral provider of infrastructure, electrification, and transportation solutions in the United States. Automation’s impact on the railway industry is second only to the effects of digitalization. Combine them and the results are transformative! We work at the leading edge of this movement, applying our proven expertise in digitalization to rail infrastructure and automation.

Our innovative solutions deliver greater safety, punctuality, reliability, and sustainability across the line, all while reducing costs for mass transit and freight transportation systems. We are continuously developing new answers for rail automation – often to questions that haven’t been asked yet.

Position Overview:

Siemens Mobility has an immediate opening for a Junior Architect position developing AI and automation solutions for the overall Rolling Stock Engineering department as part of the Electrical Architecture team. The candidate will identify and evaluate use cases for enhancing or optimizing engineering workflows, processes, or tools with AI or automation-assisted solutions and develop matching solutions to improve efficiency, quality, and execution time of Engineering activities.

We are looking for a phenomenal teammate with software development, AI, and machine learning experience interested in applying those skills in a diverse group of Engineering talent developing rail vehicles across three product lines and multiple exciting public transportation projects.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Leverage existing solutions from the areas of data analytics, process automation, application development, and AI to tackle automation problems across Engineering disciplines
  • Test and benchmark partially or fully developed AI/automation-based solutions regarding their impact on Engineering tasks/processes/workflows
  • Develop new solutions fitting identified use cases
  • Align with similar experts across the Siemens corporation worldwide to standardize or jointly develop AI assistance or automation solutions
  • Drive the adoption of such solutions throughout the Engineering department and their integration into existing processes and workflows

Depending on workload and business needs, as well as to further product understanding, the focus areas above may be enhanced by traditional software development work on train control or diagnostics software deployed on our vehicles' control units.

To thrive in this role, you have:

  • Experience in technical roles such as data science, machine learning engineering, solutions architecture, or software development (AI and NLP focus preferred); relevant coursework considered.
  • Hands-on work with Large Language Models (LLMs) and preferably Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) techniques.
  • Proficiency in data storage, modeling, and aggregation using platforms like AWS, Snowflake, Alteryx, or DBT.
  • Familiarity with AI or automation development environments such as UIPath Studio, CoPilot Studio, or Azure ML Studio/AI Foundry.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and working with APIs.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Excellent organizational skills and adaptability to rapidly changing technologies and needs.
  • Proactive in maintaining technical knowledge and deploying AI or automation solutions in industrial environments.

What will make you stand out:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a similar field with 1 or more years of meaningful work experience
  • Associate Degree in Computer Science or a similar field with 3 or more years of relevant work experience
  • Proven experience gained as part of internships or educational programs can be considered
