Description
The Kitchen Program Specialist at Girl Scouts of Western Washington (GSWW) is vital to maintaining a functional, year-round camp kitchen program that supports all GSWW camp properties, with a primary service location at Camp River Ranch, located in Carnation, WA. This role enhances the GSWW camp experience through prompt, high-quality food preparation, menu planning, meal kit packing and delivery, collaboration with camp guests, and flexible support for both food- and non-food based programming. Strong organizational skills and the ability to interact positively and competently with both internal and external customers are essential to success in this role.
This is an onsite regular, full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt role with the requirement of residency within reasonable proximity to worksite in Carnation, WA. While the full pay range is $23.77 to $25.69, this position will start at $23.77 per hour for purposes of internal pay equity.

Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversees all aspects of the camp dining experience, including menu planning, ordering, preparation, cooking, and meal kit creation for groups of various sizes, including but not limited to special weekend events and programs (150-200 guests on average for 2-4 days at a time)
- Ensures the health and safety of all guests, including campers, staff and other visitors, by following appropriate requirements for safe food preparation, handling, and food storage standards
- Develops and maintains pricing models for food services based on current market costs and manages the kitchen program budget, including ordering and invoice oversight.
- Serves as the point of contact for health department inspections at all camp properties.
- Maintains clean, safe, and functional kitchen and dining facilities, including equipment upkeep.
- Provides training and support to volunteers and seasonal camp staff on kitchen procedures and food safety at all camp properties.
- Builds positive relationships with campers, staff, volunteers, and guests while managing kitchen operations.
- Participates in camp life, including but not limited to assisting with non-kitchen activities, campfire, staff training, meetings, and camp cleaning as needed.
- Promotes and supports Girl Scout program philosophies of GSUSA and GSWW.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to interact positively and professionally with internal and external stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, campers, and guests.
- Ability to create menus compliant with National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and Washington State school standards.
- Ability to perform duties in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment with frequent exposure to loud noises, sensory stimulation, and both indoor and outdoor conditions; must be able to work long hours on foot as needed.
- Physically able to bend, lift, and carry at least 50 pounds, and walk on unpaved, uneven terrain multiple times per day.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain situational awareness and assess participant safety in real-time.
- Skilled in risk identification, accident prevention, and emergency response.
- Proven ability to exercise sound judgment in high-pressure situations.
- Demonstrated emotional resiliency and professionalism in handling extended, high-stress situations.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills when working with volunteers and staff.
- Ability to operate camp vehicles (including golf carts) and safely transport meal kits or supplies.
- Comfortable driving a 12-passenger van as needed.
- Receptive to instruction and capable of working under supervision.
Supervisory Responsibilities
While this role does not have direct reports, it provides functional oversight and scheduling for volunteers and seasonal staff assisting with meal preparation, food service, and delivery of meal kits.
Education and Experience Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in commercial kitchen and/or quantity cooking
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience working in Girl Scout and/or camp settings
- Experience providing oversight of staff and/or volunteers in a commercial kitchen or quantity cooking setting
- Food delivery experience and/or experience in transporting food safely while keeping time in the temperature danger zone minimized
- Experience in menu planning and food ordering
Other Required Qualifications:
- 21 years of age by start date
- GSWW Quantity Cook Training or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire
- ServSafe Certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire
- Washington State Food Worker Card or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire
- Current CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire
- Must reside within GSWW Council region of Western Washington, with preference for residence in reasonable proximity to worksite in Carnation, WA
- Must be available to work in a camp setting with a variable work week and potentially long hours, including early mornings, weekends, and evenings, on a consistent basis.
- Valid Washington State driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, proof of insurance and the ability to fulfill travel requirements across widespread regional geography on a regular basis.
- Satisfactory results from a criminal background check
