Requirements
- Substantial practical experience in cloud engineering, automation, and the software delivery lifecycle
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure, Azure DevOps, Terraform, AKS, and CI/CD pipelines
- Solid scripting and software engineering capability
- Proven experience leading, mentoring, and coaching engineers
- Ability to make an immediate impact within an established engineering function
- At least five years continuous UK residency, making you eligible for Security Check (SC) clearance
- Ability to attend our Newport office regularly and participate in in-person interview stages
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and develop infrastructure as code
- Support cloud deployments, troubleshoot issues, and contribute code where required
- Lead, coach, and line manage a team of DevOps engineers
- Drive technical decision-making and promote DevOps best practices across teams and services
- Work closely with engineering, architecture, and delivery teams to modernise platforms and improve delivery capability

We are a UK public sector organisation seeking a Lead DevOps Engineer to join our Platform Engineering function as part of a major digital transformation programme. This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on setting direction while staying close to technology and delivery. The permanent position is based in Newport, South Wales, with hybrid working and one day per week on site. The salary is £66,000–£78,000, depending on skills and experience, including a staged retention and technical allowance that increases over four years.
