POSITION: Lighting Supervisor
DEPARTMENT: Playhouse
REPORTS TO: Technical Director
WORK SCHEDULE: On Campus
PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Lighting Supervisor is responsible for taking the lead on the delivery and management for all lighting requirements for Pittsburgh Playhouse's productions, related projects and events, and to contribute to the creation of the highest standards in all the Playhouse operations.
This is an IATSE union position and will require membership, which can be obtained through Point Park University.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Bachelor's degree or equivalent with at least 3 years professional lighting supervision experience.
- Broad working knowledge of all aspects of theatrical lighting design and production
- The ability to read and understand ground plans, sections, lighting plots, and electrical schematics.
- Comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of electricity.
- Proficiency in Vectorworks, AutoCAD, and Lightwright
- Understanding and experience with ETC Paradigm, sACN networking, and ETC suite of products preferred
- Ability to trouble shoot lighting systems and experience with moving fixtures
- Experience with moving fixtures
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in the implementation and execution of practical LED lighting
- Must be comfortable working at heights on genies, ladders, catwalks, etc.
- Strong oral and written communications skills are required
- Great interpersonal, organizational, and supervisory skills are essential
- Supervisory ability: Supervision of 2 full-time direct reports
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential:
- Manage the installation (load-in, hand, focus) and strike (load-out) of all lighting needs for productions, events, and installations as per design or as needed. (30%)
- Manage and train both students and staff working with lighting equipment. (15%)
Maintain lighting equipment, inventory, and supplies in the Pittsburgh Playhouse. (15%)
- Attend Production and Departmental meetings as necessary. (10%)
- Attend Technical Rehearsals for Playhouse and outside rental productions and events. (10%)
- Maintain a safe working environment for students and staff. (10%)
- Other duties as assigned. (10%)
Non-Essential
Responsible for administration, budget management and paperwork of the lighting department. (50%)
- Maintain organization of all lighting equipment and cabling. (20%)
- General upkeep of the electrics shop and spaces. (20%)
- Cultivate and manage a large roster of freelance technicians or overhire. (10%)
Working Environment: Occasional exposure to objectionable conditions or variations such as those found in variable weather conditions or light industrial settings.
Physical Demands: Job requires repetitively lifting average weight objects with repetitive bending and stooping. Frequently lifts heavy objects but alternating with lighter activities. Job may require physical exertion such as long periods of standing. Job may require above-average agility and dexterity.
