Job Summary:

The Liquor Manager reports to the Store Manager and is responsible for the overall success of the Liquor Department, including sales and merchandising operation. The Liquor Manager will motivate and manage the Liquor staff, hold daily/weekly huddles with staff, clearly communicate objectives, ensure compliance, ensure that all customers have a great experience, and manage product inventory to generate sales. This position directly supervises all Liquor employees. The Liquor Manager is expected to work 5 days per week for a total of 40 hours, including one weekend day and one closing shift.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional customer service in all areas and uphold the same standards for all Liquor Department staff
  • Effectively train and educate new Liquor employees to ensure new hires are successful in their position and as a team member
  • Responsible for all aspects of the Liquor Department including ordering, receiving, stocking, inventory control, and cashiering
  • Monitor weekly orders in the state’s database and make necessary adjustments, considering trends and sales history
  • Order non-alcoholic Liquor Department product from approved vendors
  • Achieve annual sales growth benchmarks
  • Execute promotional programs and seasonal campaigns to drive sales
  • Monitor shrink, loss prevention, and product rotation
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked department
  • Maintain secure and organized Liquor storage areas
  • Responsible for leading the department’s inventory counts
  • Customer service management; includes properly handling customer issues and using problem-solving skills to ensure all WCM customers have an excellent experience
  • Strategically merchandise and track sales to meet customer demand and increase profits
  • Create schedules for all Liquor employees, not exceeding the maximum sales per labor hours
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local liquor laws and policies
  • Monitor staff progress, providing regular feedback regarding their performance and any areas of improvement
  • Interview Liquor Department candidates and work with the Store Manager to make hiring decisions
  • Maintain timely email, phone, and in-person communication with vendors, customers, and co-workers
  • Participate in meetings with vendors and department managers, including but not limited to: weekly store management meetings, marketing meetings, and quarterly financial reviews
  • Review weekly invoices
  • Visit other stores to gather ideas and inspiration
  • Regularly monitor communications from OHLQ
  • Assist in Beer & Wine Departments as directed by the Store Manager
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Experience in retail, preferably in liquor, wine, or beer sales or department management
  • Knowledge of spirits, including trends, brands, and regulations
  • Familiarity with point-of-sale systems
  • Moderate computer skills, including email, Excel, Word, Outlook, and online ordering systems
  • Great multitasking, organizational, communication, and customer service skills
  • Comfortable working with the public and greeting, speaking with, and assisting customers
  • Attention to detail, ensuring duties are completed correctly and on time
  • Leadership, sales, and merchandizing skills
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, twisting, lifting, bending, and reaching
  • Occasional instances of pushing, pulling, and squatting
  • Must be able to lift and carry cases up to 50 pounds
  • Must have holiday and weekend availability
