Job Purpose & Goal:
The Lowboy Driver plays an essential role in the deployment of jobs at Alleghany Services. The Lowboy Driver’s main job purpose is to operate trucks to transport equipment to various job site locations across New York and other nearby states.
Basic Functions:
- Operates truck in safe and professional manner on public highways, roads, in the yard area and at various job sites to deliver materials. Trucks driven include but are not limited to: semi-tractor with lowboy, dump or flatbed trailer and dump trucks.
- Performs daily pre/post trip inspections.
- Load and unload equipment in a safe manner using any materials required to protect roadway from damage.
- Secure equipment to trailer using proper tie downs in accordance with FMCSA load securement guidelines.
- Follow permitted routing and instructions in regards to oversize permitted loads.
- Keeps accurate log of deliveries and completes required paperwork for billing.
- Monitor various gauges during operation of vehicle.
- Maintain daily vehicle mileage logs and if required, hours of service logs.
- Assure product quality to the best of the driver's ability.
- Perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment; refer major problems to supervisor.
- Properly follow all company policies and procedures for safe working procedures and environment.
- Obey applicable laws and follow dispatch instructions.
- Must keep vehicle in a clean and orderly condition.
- Other duties as assigned.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Present yourself in a courteous professional manner to customers and the general public.
- Identify areas for improvement and make constructive suggestions for change.
- Ensure all company safety regulations are upheld.
- Submit an accurate record of hours worked, clocking in and out each day via Alleghany's time tracking mobile application.
Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required:
- Class A CDA required
- Flatbed and lowboy experience
- Ability to travel overnight
- Being a team player is essential; tasks will require close collaboration with other team members.
- Strong adherence to all health and safety regulations required.
- Strong communication skills, ability to take direction.
- Physical strength to operate heavy and power-driven equipment.
- High School Diploma or GED
