Mainline Excavator Operator
FPS Civil is looking for highly experienced Mainline Excavator Operators to excavate and install sanitary sewer systems, storm water systems, and water line systems to precise standards of accuracy. Candidates must be able to safely dig in the presence of fellow construction workers and around existing utilities to ensure the safety of all persons, equipment, property, and utilities in the work zone. Other tasks will include ensuring trenches are excavated to the proper depth/grade by checking grades with instruments such as lasers, grade rods, and transit levels, operating a front-end loader to screen backfill material, perform pre-shift and post-shift inspections on equipment daily, maintain equipment logs, identify, and address potential safety concerns, and ensure a clean and safe working environment at all times.
Requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience required.
- Must have significant experience with excavation & backfilling of trenches and knowledge of general excavations.
- Must have significant experience with the installation, moving, and/or removal of trench boxes and other shoring systems for deep trench excavations (+20’ or more).
- Have a great deal of awareness of soil conditions and proper slope requirements.
- Knowledge and understanding of blue stake markings.
- Ability to read & interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Experience with pipe layouts, shooting accurate grades, and maintaining slopes as dictated on technical drawings and specifications.
- Acceptable driving record is required for operating company on-highway motor vehicles.
- Must be able to pass a drug test (including random testing)
- Must be able to pass background checks and obtain security clearance/badging as necessary to work at high security job site locations throughout Arizona.
- Trench safety, competent person, confined space, fall protection, and OSHA 10-hour training is highly desirable.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- Minimum 45+ hours per week.
- Some weekend and night work required depending on job requirements.
- Working outdoors in inclement climate.
- Must be able to meet all safety requirements and adhere to applicable safety policies.
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest, steel toe boots, seat belt, gloves, face masks, fall protection, etc.
- Acceptable level of correctable vision for Near, Distance, Color, Peripheral and Depth Perception.
- Hearing must be sufficient for being aware of back-up alarms and for normal conversations around loud heavy machinery.
- Use of both arms and legs required.
- Ability to repeatedly lift 75 pounds or more, climb, bend, stoop and stand for long periods of time under adverse field conditions.
