Elk Meadow Cabins is looking for an experienced maintenance worker/handyman to join our team. This is very much a jack-of-all-trades position. Basic understanding of construction/plumbing/electrical/HVAC is essential. More in-depth work experience in these fields is preferred. Experience working for a General Contractor is a big plus.
This is a full-time, year round position. Ability to work holidays, weekends and a generally flexible schedule is required. Typical hours are 9-5:30, 5 days a week.
We are surrounded by the National Park land on all sides. There are many old-growth redwood groves surrounding the property. We are directly on the Roosevelt Elk feeding path, so they pass through a couple days out of the week.
Responsibilities:
- Maintaining facilities: there are 15 separate rentals across two different sites. Basic repairs and maintenance need to be carried out quickly and efficiently.
- Larger projects: facilitate larger construction projects on-site. We have several large-scale projects that will begin in the fall.
- Troubleshooting: fixing complicated issues in the cabins or other facilities.
- Strong communication: coordinate with the General Manager, Housekeeping Manager and other staff to complete repairs in a timely manner.
- Commute: ability to commute to Orick five days a week. Must have reliable transportation.
- Carpentry/Welding/Heavy Machinery Operation/Landscaping/Mechanic work a big plus.
- Customer Service: occasional interaction with guests, must be able to communicate with co-workers and customers alike.
Requirements:
- 2+ years of general maintenance/handyman/skilled trade experience (vacation rental or hospitality experience a plus).
- Safely operate hand and power tools.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Excellent organizational skills. This is a large property with many areas to keep track of.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, or as needed.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
