Position Summary

The Project Engineer develops efficient manufacturing processes and prepares cost estimates for aerospace parts and assemblies. This position reviews drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to determine manufacturing feasibility, material needs, labor hours, tooling, outside services, and production costs.

Working closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Purchasing, Materials, and Production, this role supports new product introductions, process improvements, and accurate customer proposals. The successful candidate must be analytical, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple projects.

THIS IS AN ONSITE POSITION ONLY. NO REMOTE OPTION.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review customer drawings, CAD models, bills of material, specifications, and RFQs to identify manufacturing requirements and potential risks.
  • Determine whether proposed work fits the company’s capabilities, equipment, and product scope.
  • Develop manufacturing processes, routings, work instructions, labor standards, and workstation layouts.
  • Calculate material, labor, machine time, tooling, and outside-processing costs using ERP and estimating tools.
  • Prepare estimates and proposals for internal review and customer submission.
  • Work with cross-functional teams and customers to develop practical manufacturing and quoting strategies.
  • Identify tooling, fixture, material-handling, inventory, inspection, and testing requirements.
  • Support new product introductions, engineering changes, and production troubleshooting.
  • Track quoted, won, and lost RFQs and compare estimated costs with actual production results.
  • Adjust estimating assumptions and manufacturing standards based on actual performance.
  • Recommend improvements to product manufacturability, quality, workflow, safety, and cost.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing, 5S, ergonomic, and defect-prevention principles.
  • Comply with established safety and Quality Management System procedures.
  • Complete other related duties and projects as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, industrial, or a related engineering field preferred.
  • A technical degree with relevant manufacturing and estimating experience may be considered.
  • Experience with metal fabrication, welding, machining, forming, or assembly preferred.
  • Aerospace manufacturing and estimating experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems, CAD software, and Microsoft Office.
  • Unigraphics/NX experience and knowledge of Lean Manufacturing are a plus.
