Summary
As a Material Manager, you will oversee the procurement and management of materials essential for production processes, ensuring efficient supply chain operations. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will utilize your core skills in supplier management, purchasing, and production planning to optimize inventory levels and reduce costs. Your expertise in SAP and ERP systems (SAGE) will enhance procurement strategies, while your strong communication and negotiation skills will foster effective relationships with suppliers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform standard purchasing functions such as supplier qualification, issuing purchase orders, receiving purchase orders, validating pricing, and resolving invoice discrepancies.
- Help drive a culture of Safety, Quality and Employee Engagement within the office and shop.
- Directly manage and mentor the Inventory staff and assistant buyer.
- Manage material and inventory levels through forecasting, planning and inventory analysis.
- Establish a Plan for Every Purchased Part with replenishment triggers available and closely monitored.
- Track open purchase orders and purchase part shortages and communicate regular updates with shop associates.
- Manage stockroom and ensure a safe environment, ease of counting and a reduction of employee and part movement in and out of the stockroom. Increase point of use stock.
- Establish, document, and maintain cycle counting and physical inventory processes.
- Maintain Purchase Price Variance reporting and communicate updates with finance and site leadership. Create and drive a pipeline of savings opportunities.
- Analyze commodity and market trends and apply this knowledge to make insightful buying decisions. Inform site leadership of any business impact of these trends.
- Ensure supplier compliance to required drawings, specifications, industry standards and required dates.
- Create and report Key Performance Indicators for the purchasing department. Drive improvements.
- Manage supplier qualification and purchasing for all non-production spend to support the shop.
- Manage appropriate disposal of scrap, obsolete and/or surplus materials.
- Own the creation and maintenance of Item and Supplier Master data in QuickBooks.
- Other duties may be assigned by Manager.
Education and/or Experience
- A 4-year degree in business or a related field is required.
- Minimum of 3 years working in a purchasing function.
- APICS(ASCM) or similar industry certification preferred.
Job Skills Requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with suppliers, shop associates, site leadership and corporate functional leaders.
- Ability to work in a team environment and build and manage business relationships.
- Experience working in or classroom exposure to Lean production environments.
- Proficiency working with basic ERP and/or production buying/scheduling software.
- Strong negotiation, analytical and Excel skills.
- Experience and willingness to work in a very “hands on” shop environment.
- Ability to lift boxes weighing 50 pounds to a height of 4 feet.
Computer Skills
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Advanced Microsoft Office Excel skills are required.
Experience with SAGE preferred
