JOB TITLE: Mechanical Principal Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:
The Mechanical Principal Engineer will play a critical role in the specification knowledge, training, onboarding, decision making, workflow development, and general upkeep of the mechanical engineering department. You will collaborate successfully with stakeholders including project managers, project engineers, engineering designers and design engineers, other engineering disciplines, procurement, and field service, as well as heavily with the customer, to ensure that our department decisions align with customer requirements, field services needs, industry standards, and company best practices.
Our Mechanical Principal Engineer would be responsible for being a main point of contact for the company for a customer in mechanical engineering. You would understand baggage handling systems fully, comprehend customer specifications and be able to influence future specification changes, and create standards for both ways of working and internal specifications. You will advise project engineers, designers, and other engineering disciplines on a consistent, quality-driven, and efficient way to work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Design and review internal process documentation, templates, work instructions, SOPs, and other ways of working.
- Dictate internal standards, focusing on standardization.
- Develop internal tools and calculation sheets for use by the organization.
- Lead and guide project engineers and designers on an advisory basis, focusing on consistency, adherence to customer specifications and requirements, and high-quality output.
- Understand baggage handling systems fully and make system level design decisions based on your knowledge.
- Perform and develop complex engineering calculations, such as horsepower calculations and speeds, and understand the mechanics behind the calculations.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as project management, procurement, field services, and other engineering disciplines to ensure mechanical engineering is aligned fully with the organization.
- Represent the company appropriately during collaborative participation with customers and consultants.
- Work together with vendors to ensure adherence of design and quality, as well as active participation in product design to meet customer needs.
- Identify potential issues, provide efficient solutions, and make decisions when required.
- Create and maintain equipment Manifests and other engineering documentation.
- Review detailed field installation drawings containing detail for customer approval and field installation ease, and assist with dictating internal standards for drawings.
- Assist in ensuring all designs comply with specifications and standards.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Office primarily, with occasional field visits.
- Up to 10% travel may be required.

WORK SCHEDULE:
This position works in office. General office hours are M-F, 7a-4p or 8a-5p. Working hours may vary to meet project requirements.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent in years of experience.
- 7+ years’ experience in conveyance.
- Knowledge of conveyor systems, specifically baggage handling, is required.
- Proficiency in CAD Software (AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar).
- Experienced use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Project)
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Ability to obtain airport security clearance as needed.
