Job Description
Under direct supervision, responsible for general clinical duties such as taking vital signs, giving injections, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms at an outpatient care site. May perform some administrative duties and support the documentation of patient records as dictated by the physician or provider.
- Responsibilities
- Calls patient to triage area to take vital signs, completes screenings and documents in EMR/chart. Maintains patient flow in and out of exam room, prepares patients as needed for examination to ensure patients are seen in a timely manner.
- Administers medications as ordered.
- Collects and processes laboratory specimens as ordered.
- Cleans and prepares examination rooms prior to patient appointments.
- Assists in maintaining the medical inventory and placing orders for new materials as needed.
- Performs Point of Care Testing (POCT), documents and reports clinical findings to Registered Nurse (RN) in charge and/or Provider.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

- Communicates effectively, written and verbally.
- Possess analytical thinking this role requires analyzing information and using logic to coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.
- Participates as an integral part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing the highest quality of care to the patient the UT Health Way.
- Knowledge of EPIC software; may be required to be EPIC super user.
- Meets all training and competency requirements.
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Graduation from a certified Medical Assistant program preferred
Experience
- Experience in healthcare is preferred.
- CPR AED First Aid Certification upon hire.
