JOB SUMMARY: The Certified Medical Assistant - II is responsible for directly supporting the Medical Staff. The primary task is to enter data and notes into Electronic Health Record system. A successful Medical Assistant will be well versed in psychiatry, capable of understanding mental status, and the use of psychotropic medications. Medical Assistants (MA) must have knowledge of the behavioral healthcare field, medical terminology, use of an electronic health records system and ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow. The CMA-II functions under direct supervision of the Medical Staff when determining competencies and performing clinical tasks during patient care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES: The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification with or without an accommodation. Administrative Duties:

  • Entering/maintaining electronic health records
  • Answering telephones and greeting patients with outstanding customer service
  • Updating and filing patient medical records
  • Coding and filling out insurance forms
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services
  • Handling correspondence, billing, and bookkeeping

Clinical Duties:

  • Taking medical histories, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination
  • Assisting the physician during exams
  • Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, drawing blood, performing basic laboratory tests
  • Instructing patients about medication and special diets
  • Preparing and administering medications as directed by a physician, authorizing prescription refills as directed
  • Taking electrocardiograms, removing sutures and changing dressings

Patient Liaison:

  • Medical assistants are instrumental in helping patients feel at ease in the physician’s office and often explain the physician's instructions

Uses sound judgment in meeting the responsibilities and performing the duties of the position.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Education:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Medical Assistant Certification in the state of Florida required
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of One (1) year experience in a behavioral health environment required
  • Minimum of One (1) year experience as a medical assistant required

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT: Completes all requirements according to Individual Training Plan within the first six months of hire and annually. Other training and/or professional development may be assigned due to evolution of programs.
