Position Purpose:
All KHI employees are expected to perform their respective tasks and duties in such a way that supports KHI’s vision of providing the region’s best clinical care and patient service through an environment that fosters respect for others and pride in performance.
Key Responsibilities [List of material responsibilities and essentials duties which must be completed in achieving the objectives of the position]
- Responsible for patient care under the direct supervision (in the office suite or exam room) of a Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner
- Responsible for maintaining all applicable KHI Policies and Procedures
- Escorts patient to exam room and prepares patient for exam including vital stats, history and reason for seeking care
- Cross trains in data entry, balancing of accounts, charges fees and collect payments due.
- Schedules/confirms appointments
- Maintains and facilitates communication between patients, family and clinical staff.
- Reports as necessary to Public Health at direction of provider
- Maintains work area including exam rooms, supplies, medication and immunizations
- Performs CLIA waived lab tests and obtains specimens
- Performs proficiency testing and runs controls for waived tests
- May perform venipuncture
- Participates in clinical division meetings

Required Education: High School diploma or Equivalent
Required Certifications:
BLS through the American Heart Association
DPS Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
Medical Assistant (MA) Must meet one of the following criteria:
- Has attended an approved medical assistant training program, a copy of the diploma or transcripts are on file, by one of the following:
a. The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs; or
b. The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools
- An unapproved training program and successfully passes the medical assistant examination administered by a certifying organization accredited by either the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or the American National Standards Institute with an MA certification from one of the following:
National Healthcareer Association: CCMA
American Medical Technologist: RMA
American Association of Medical Assistants: AAMA
National Center for Competency Testing: NCMA
American Medical Certification Association: CMAC
- Was directly supervised by the same physician, physician group, or physician assistant for a minimum of 2000 hours prior to February 2000. (Letter from physician, physician group, or physician assistant must be on file)
- Has completed a medical services training program of the Armed Forces of the United States and a copy of that certificate is on file.
- Has completed an unapproved medical assistant training program and was employed as a medical assistant after program completion, prior to February of 2000.
Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively with others

- Knowledge of and ability to use computer hardware and software applications
- Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocol
- Knowledge of and ability to implement direct care, newborn through geriatric
- Knowledge of and ability to use basic medical terminology
