Job Title: Medical Assistant / Office Assistant

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 + per hour depending on experience
Position Summary
We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented, and compassionate Medical Assistant / Office Assistant to join our busy optometry practice. This dual-role position requires a flexible team player who can assist with both patient care and administrative duties to ensure the clinic operates efficiently and delivers an exceptional patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical (Medical Assistant) Duties:
- Prepare exam rooms and ensure equipment is sanitized and ready
- Escort patients to exam rooms, take patient histories, and record chief complaints
- Perform basic pre-testing (e.g., auto-refraction, tonometry, visual acuity testing)
- Educate patients on contact lens care and general eye health
- Assist the doctor during examinations as needed
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in the EHR system
- Monitor inventory of clinical supplies and reorder as needed
Administrative (Office Assistant) Duties:
- Greet patients warmly, assist front staff with check in/out and verifying insurance information, as needed
- Schedule appointments, manage patient flow and handle phone inquiries regarding medication and referral needs
- Process payments, co-pays, and post charges to support front desk staff as needed
- Support the optical team with patient hand-offs and general coordination
- Ensure reception and clinic areas are clean, organized, and welcoming
- With multiple clinics in the D/FW metroplex, staff must be willing to travel to other locations occasionally when needs arise.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Medical Assistant certification preferred, but not required
- Previous experience in an optometry or medical office highly desirable, but will train the right person.
- Familiarity with EHR systems (Crystal PM) is a big plus
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and multitasking skills
- Outstanding customer service skills, able to work as a team
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Saturday work hours are required, as well as some holidays (excluding Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day and July 4)
- Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and composure at all times
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs
- Manual dexterity for equipment and computer use
Work Schedule & Benefits
- We offer a five day work week with required Saturday hours and a scheduled weekday off that can be flexible if needed. Clinics are open 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
