DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Medical Records Assistant, you will provide essential support to the Medical Records Director, as well as handle and protect sensitive, private, legally-privileged, and confidential data and information by releasing, distributing, sharing, or conveying data and information only in accordance with established requirements and exclusively to authorized individuals. Some specific duties entail compiling a wide-range of statistical reports, maintaining demographic databases, and auditing active and closed medical records.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours/week.
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year of clerical experience in a medical records department of a hospital, or ambulatory acute medical care setting or a licensed nursing facility, which has included six months of experience under the general direction or oversight by a registered Medical Records Technician or Administrator; and graduation from high school; or
  • Graduation from a medical secretarial or medical records program; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
