Job Title: Medical – Surgical Nursing Supervisor

I. Position Summary: This position hold responsibility for the planning and directing of patient care activities and clinical operations in the Medical – Surgical area under the general guidance and direction of the Director of Nursing Services. In collaboration with the Director of Nursing Services ensures financial, operational, and strategic objectives of the department are achieved. Responsible to participate in quality assurance / performance improvement activities to ensure processes are meeting their intended goal / outcome, to identify opportunities for improvement, and to be accountable for the quality of care provided in the Medical – Surgical area.
II. Position Requirements:
A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Tennessee
B. Education: Minimum of an Associate Degree in Nursing, Bachelor of Science (BSN) preferred, but not required
C. Experience: Two (2) years of experience in an acute care setting.
D. Special qualifications: BLS – healthcare provider. Good communication skills, both orally and written. Some computer knowledge required. Ability to manage a team and work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care. Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
III. Degree of Supervision Required: Involves general guidance and direction by the Director of Nursing Services. The employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
IV. Ages of Patients Served:
This position requires competence in assessment, treatment, and/or care for the age groups indicated. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training, or experience.

VI. Physical Requirements: Constant: standing, sitting, seeing, hearing, and finger dexterity. Constant concentration in fine details with frequent interruptions. Occasional: pushing, pulling, climbing, bending, stooping, twisting, using arm, leg and back muscles may be required. May be expected to lift more than 25 pounds. Manage stress appropriately, handle multiple priorities. Make decisions under stress. Work along and manage anger, fear, hostility and violence of others appropriately.
VII. Personal Protective Equipment: This position requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment during various tasks/ activities. PPE includes, but is not limited to: gloves, gowns, masks, respirators, eye protection, and shoe covers.
