Los Angeles Special Care Center, a Generations Healthcare facility, is in search of an LPT Licensed Psychiatric Technician or Licensed Vocational Nurse, to join our team in our 16 bed secured unit for behavioral residents.
Position Overview:
The Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) provides direct nursing care to clients in the Mental Health Rehabilitation Center (MHRC), ensuring compliance with Title 9 of the California Code of Regulations, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), and HIPAA regulations. The LPT is responsible for monitoring client care, supporting treatment goals, administering medications, and documenting care in accordance with established policies and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties:
- Provide direct care to clients, ensuring their physical and mental health needs are met in a trauma-informed and client-centered manner.
- Assist in implementing individualized nursing care plans consistent with the interdisciplinary treatment plan.
- Monitor client progress, participating in the evaluation of treatment outcomes and reporting any changes in symptoms, behaviors, or condition to the RN or DON.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments safely and accurately, following established protocols and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Ensure medication documentation aligns with Title 9, including administration within one hour of the prescribed time.
- Facilitates psychoeducational groups, including education related to medications, self-care, hygiene, and similar topics. Documents client participation in group activities.
- Assist in de-escalating clients during behavioral crises, utilizing crisis intervention and trauma-informed care techniques.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, RNs, nursing staff, and other members of the treatment team.
- Maintain respectful and professional interactions with clients, families, and external providers, ensuring a client-focused approach to care.
- Keep the nursing team informed of changes in client conditions, responses to treatment, and other pertinent clinical information.
- Support a positive care environment by fostering collaboration among staff and promoting team-based care.
- Document daily client interactions, observations, and changes in behavior or health status.
- Assist with maintaining a safe and clean care environment, identifying hazards such as ligature risks, unsafe client behaviors, and environmental issues.
- Complete timely, accurate, and thorough documentation as required by Title 9 regulations, facility policies, and HIPAA
Qualifications:
- Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university, or be a graduate of an approved LPT or LVN program.
- Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) preferred.
- Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an LVN or LPT in this state.
- At least 1-2 years of experience in a behavioral health or mental health setting preferred.
- Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the behavioral and nursing needs of the residents served.
- Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
- Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
