The Musician uses music to improve and enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of people with challenging situations like dementia, Parkinson’s, and stroke. OCC believes that Music helps people develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight in a therapeutic and meaningful way. The Musician develops, implements, and facilitates a variety of musical programs that maintain/enhance a participant’s cognitive, social, and physical abilities and provides input to member care plans.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create and facilitate a monthly schedule of innovative music classes such as (drumming, choirs, music history, songwriting, lyric analysis, etc.) to engage club members in group sessions as well as independent areas of opportunity.
- Create and facilitate a monthly schedule of other innovative classes using your skillsets and passions such as woodworking, gardening, exercise, etc.
- Observe and analyze members' participation, reactions, and progress during sessions and provide feedback on care plan development.
- Encourage members with special needs and circumstances to acquire new skills and become engaged by redirecting and scaling programs to best meet individual needs
- Provide assistance with personal care and serving lunch/snacks
- Maintain up-to-date information on the community and evolving program trends in the field of Gerontology.
- Confer with the interdisciplinary team to plan and evaluate programs.
- Willingness to participate in additional opportunities for growth and development.
- Support OCC’s fundraising efforts, and special events
