Responsibilities

The National VP, Funded Programs will lead a team that will enhance American Heart Association’s ability to support our efforts with donors and sponsors full lifecycle management of funded projects, from pre-award planning and proposal review to post-award administration and impact reporting. The VP will direct the team responsible for providing guidance, operational expertise, and compliance accountability on restricted funding received from corporate partners, foundations, individual donors, and government agencies. The VP is responsible for leading the work of the department, including driving innovation in grants management, implementing cross-functional process improvements, and integrating advanced technical systems to enhance transparency and efficiency. The VP will partner with other departments to ensure a strong understanding of the work that the team supports and the needs of the donors – and will represent the Office on operational and development workgroups to provide insight and/or oversight for workflows and standards within scope of responsibility. VP will serve as the lead liaison across matrixed performers in various departments to ensure optimal results.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads a team of experienced professionals that is responsible for identifying and establishing pre-award and post-award support for all funded project activities. Facilitates creation and improvements to relevant processes and procedures. Monitors external trends and best practices to deliver recommendations for American Heart Association’s grant management.
  • Manages pre-award team and collaborates with fundraisers and implementers that regularly and consistently request and secure restricted funding across a range of American Heart Association program offerings. Oversees the budget development, proposal review, and gift agreement processes.
  • Leads the operations of the post-award team responsible for a diverse funding portfolio to monitor, document, and validate that program activities align with funding requirements, expense reporting, financial accountability, reporting, and related compliance obligations. standards.
  • Directs operations of the government grants team responsible for administration of a highly complex government funding portfolio. Partners with Finance, Legal, project implementers and other business units to ensure compliance with policies and procedures for restricted projects, grants, government grants and gifts.
  • Fosters collaboration across departments, ensuring alignment with donor expectations, regulatory requirements, and organizational goals.
  • Serves as a liaison with key leadership in Mission Advancement, Finance, Legal, Corporate Relations, QORA, Marketing and Communications, and other departments to ensure alignment of goals, activities, and technology. Provides leadership and oversight to organization-wide policies, procedures, and compliance activities within scope of responsibility.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Eight (8) years of relevant experience (12 years of experience preferred)
  • Experience in fundraising, grants administration, restricted funding recognition and reporting
  • Experience in non-profit environment
  • Experience in operations and project management with oversight of staff
  • Familiarity with government grants
  • Management experience, with at least seven (7) years of supervisory experience
  • Advanced skills in proposal, grant writing or related area
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
