Deputy Project Engineering Manager – Naval Radar

We currently have a vacancy for a Deputy Project Engineering Manager (PEM) at our site in Cowes, Isle of Wight.

You’ll join the Naval Radar team, working alongside the Product Lead to conduct day to day activities in support to the team including\:

· Acting as the primary technical contact for new-build customers with focus on technical and commercial queries, liaising internally as required

· Delivering PEM role for critical technical projects essential to maintaining the product lifecycle (e.g. DSP refresh)

· Supporting the transition of new-build projects into In-Service Support contracts

You’ll also be gaining experience in providing leadership and people management, while supporting the Naval Radar Engineering discipline as directed by the Product Lead.

Your main responsibilities as Deputy Project Engineering Manager will involve\:

Work alongside the Product Lead helping to deliver the product strategy, specifically\:

· Customer Support\: Present clear detailed technical information to the customer community influencing customer decisions.

· Work Package Management\: Management of Engineering work packages as delegated by the Product Lead. Guidance and overall responsibility will reside with the PEM. Lead the teams and guide the technical design processes and resultant solutions; retaining focus on the technical compliance, system complexity, ‘design for’ trade-offs and schedule constraints. Technical focus point for development and analysis activities, preparing and presenting technical aspects to the required stakeholders.

· Resource Planning & Forecasting\: Contribute to Knowledge Management and Succession Planning and arranging for KM funding where appropriate.

· Produce Engineering Schedules\: Work with Project Control & PM’s to assist with Production and maintenance of engineering schedules.

· Support to Bids\: Provide Engineering Support to Bid activities, such as co-ordination of engineering inputs and estimates.

· Manage & Maintain Engineering & Commercial Risks\: Work with Project Control, PM’s and PEM to contribute to the Risk Assessment Cycle.

· Relationships & Networking\: Working in conjunction with the other engineering functions ensuring that information and experience are spread amongst the community and adequate challenge is given to plans and design principles.

· Engineering Reviews\: along with the Product Lead, attend and act as delegate when required for monthly Engineering reviews & coordinate updates / resulting actions. Support LCM Design Reviews.

· Product Strategy\: Working closely with the Portfolio leadership team to ensure a clear understanding of the portfolio route map, future developments and strategy is understood.

Your skills and qualifications\:

· Significant knowledge of the ARTISAN Radar product, its capabilities, and the breadth of technology within the product

· Engineering background (ideally electrical engineering or another relevant field such as systems engineering or mechanical)

· Strong customer and stakeholder management skills, including appreciation and/or experience of international and cultural differences

· Good commercial acumen, including estimating and forecasting experience and ability to support bid activity

· Comfortable deputising for managers in reviews and presenting information to senior stakeholders

· Ideally a degree level qualification or equivalent experience
