Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Nursery Manager to oversee the daily operations of our nursery. The ideal candidate will have a passion for plants and landscaping, coupled with strong leadership skills to manage staff and ensure the health and growth of our plant inventory. This role involves both hands-on work in the greenhouse and outdoor settings, making it essential for candidates to be comfortable with physical labor and various weather conditions.
Duties
- Manage daily operations of the nursery, including staff supervision and scheduling.
- Oversee plant care, including watering, fertilizing, pruning, and pest management.
- Utilize hand tools for planting, trimming, and maintaining plants.
- Identify different plant species and ensure proper care based on their specific needs.
- Implement irrigation systems to maintain optimal soil moisture levels.
- Conduct landscape design consultations and assist customers with plant selection.
- Perform heavy lifting as needed for planting and moving large items within the nursery.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment in both greenhouse and outdoor areas.
Skills
- Proficiency in using hand tools for gardening and landscaping tasks.
- Strong plant identification skills to recognize various species and their care requirements.
- Experience in landscape design or maintenance is preferred.
- Ability to perform outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Familiarity with greenhouse operations and plant growing techniques.
- Capability to handle heavy lifting safely and effectively.
- Basic math skills for inventory management and sales transactions.
- Knowledge of lawn care practices is a plus.
