Job Summary:
The Safety Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of employees at both the shop and construction sites. This position is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving safety programs, policies, and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries. This position generally works 4 days a week, Monday through Thursday.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Safety Policies and Procedures
- Develop and implement safety policies in compliance with local, state, and federal
- Align safety protocols with industry best practices and company standards.
Training and Education
- Conduct safety training for new hires and ongoing sessions for current staff.
- Educate workers on potential hazards and appropriate safety measures.
Inspections
- Perform regular inspections of job sites to identify and mitigate safety risks.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of safety measures and recommend improvements.
Incident Investigation
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes.
- Maintain detailed records and implement corrective actions.
Emergency Preparedness
- Implement emergency response plans for various potential incidents such as fires, chemical spills, or natural disasters.
- Ensure that workers are familiar with emergency procedures.
Safety Communication
- Establish effective communication channels for safety-related information.
- Facilitate regular safety meetings to address concerns and share information.
Safety Audits
- Conduct regular safety audits to assess the overall safety performance of the construction site.
- Provide recommendations for improvement based on audit findings.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Ensure that workers are provided with and properly using the required PPE.
- Monitor the condition and effectiveness of PPE and replace as necessary.
Collaboration with Other Departments
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate safety into all aspects of the construction process.
- Collaborate with health and environmental professionals to address broader safety concerns.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of safety related activities, training, and incidents.
- Prepare and submit regular safety reports to management.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety processes and procedures.
- Implement measures to enhance the overall safety culture of the construction site.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Superior verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in ISNet, OSHA reporting, Microsoft Office Suite, Excel and other related software.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in: Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, Construction Management preferred.
Experience
- Entry-level: 0–2 years with OSHA training
- Mid-level: 3–5 years in safety or related field
- Senior/Leader: 5+ years, often with supervisory experience
Certifications
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification (essential)
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) – Preferred for leadership roles
- Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
Travel Requirements:
Travel to jobsites within the local jurisdiction is required. Out of town travel for training may be required annually.
Work Environment:
This position will work in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings, at times walking outdoors between buildings or other various environments. Frequently the position will be in industrial or commercial settings.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
- Frequent walking, bending, stooping, squatting, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $58,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
