Position Overview
The Outpatient Psychotherapist is a licensed or associate-licensed behavioral health professional responsible for delivering psychotherapy services to eligible clients. This role includes the provision of structured, evidence-based interventions through individual, family, and group therapy sessions aimed at improving clients’ emotional, behavioral, and psychological functioning. Services are driven by individualized treatment plans that comply with Medicaid guidelines and align with the agency’s clinical standards. The Outpatient Psychotherapist serves a diverse client population—including children, adolescents, emerging adults, adults, and older adults—who may present with trauma-related diagnoses and/or Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).
Key ResponsibilitiesService Delivery
- Provide individual, family, and/or group psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults, as clinically indicated, in-office, in-home, or via telehealth.
- Utilize evidence-based treatment modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), trauma-informed care, Motivational Interviewing, and other approved interventions.
- Deliver services in accordance with authorized service levels, regulatory guidelines, and clinical best practices, using face-to-face or telehealth platforms.
Clinical Documentation
- Complete Comprehensive Clinical Assessments (CCAs), psychosocial evaluations, and other standardized assessments tools as required.
- Develop, implement, and update individualized Treatment Plans at least semi-annually, incorporating client strengths, needs, goals, and diagnoses.
- Conduct regular progress monitoring in accordance with agency protocols.
- Maintain timely, accurate, and clinically sound documentation within the Electronic Health Record (EHR), including progress notes, treatment plan updates, and discharge summaries.
- Ensure all documentation meets Medicaid and agency standards for service definitions, CPT coding, and medical necessity.
Compliance & Quality
- Participate in utilization reviews, internal audits, and quality assurance activities as required by the agency.
- Collaborate with care coordinators, referring providers, and multidisciplinary team members to support comprehensive and coordinated care.
- Attend supervision sessions in accordance with organizational policies and licensure requirements.
- Maintain active licensure and fulfill all continuing education requirements as mandated by the appropriate licensing board.
Client Engagement
- Perform risk assessments and develop individualized safety or crisis response plans as needed.
- Provide services that are culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and client-centered.
- Educate clients and families on mental health conditions, treatment modalities, recovery processes, and available supports.
- Foster a therapeutic environment that prioritizes client dignity, autonomy, and confidentiality.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $68,000.00 - $73,500.00 per year
