JOIN OUR TEAM AS A PARK RANGER!
This is an entry level position which performs semi-skilled manual labor in connection with general maintenance and upkeep of park grounds, facilities, buildings, trails, and amenities. Performs routine duties under limited supervision for the operations and maintenance of park facilities and grounds.

WORK SCHEDULE IS MOSTLY EVENINGS AND WEEKENDS.

Essential Job Functions

Responsible for day-to-day tasks for the operation and maintenance of passive parks and trails within the Parks and Trails Division. Cleans, mows, edges, trims, landscapes, and general maintenance of park facilities and grounds. Performs various custodial duties within buildings and facilities, empties trash, cleans rest rooms, and maintains operating supplies. Assists with basic building maintenance such as painting, repairing doors, changing A/C air filters and light bulbs. Assists with light-duty construction, renovation, modification, installation, and repair of park site facilities and grounds including open space, picnic areas, shelters/pavilions, restrooms, fields, playgrounds, trails, parking lots, roadways, beaches, boat ramps, campgrounds, natural areas, other park infrastructures, signage, and landscaping. Assist with maintenance of equipment required in the performance of duties.

Interacts with the public, provides and receives information, explains and enforces rules and regulations, and handles public requests and complaints. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with other county departments and outside governmental agencies. Assists in outdoor recreation and environmental education programs. Keeps apprised of monthly events and coordinates scheduled activities with public's use of the facilities. Learn and implement natural resource management techniques.

Possesses basic computer knowledge. Assists with maintaining basic written records, data collection, and reports pertaining to daily and weekly activities. Keeps supervisor and administration informed of parks status. May assume additional responsibilities if the Crew Leader is unavailable.

Operates equipment in the performance of required duties including, but not limited to, 4x4 pickup trucks, ATVs, and utility carts. Assists with maintaining light-duty construction and maintenance equipment. Position is required to withstand strenuous physical activities and work in adverse weather conditions and temperatures. Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. Assists with and performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of general methods of maintaining grounds, camping and buildings.
  • Knowledge of the methods and tools used in this work.
  • Ability to use hand tools and to operate light-duty construction/maintenance equipment in the performance of basic construction and maintenance activities.
  • Ability to understand and carry out general oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to convey basic information orally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal courteously and respectfully with the public.
  • Skilled in the use of hand tools utilized in basic construction/maintenance activities.

Minimum Requirements

PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, and walk frequently. Ability to perform manual labor duties outdoors, sometimes under adverse conditions. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication. Requires weekend, night, and holiday work.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. One (1) year of experience in general facilities and maintenance.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a Florida valid driver's license.
