Job Description:
Description: The Patient Flow Coordinator performs clerical duties associated with the general operation of the Operating Room.
Typical Duties:
Prioritizes patient flow through comprehensive clinical knowledge of case types and operating room resources.
Expedites completion of daily elective schedule; post emergencies and add-on surgeries to schedule as appropriate; makes scheduling decisions as necessary to ensure optimum utilization of operating rooms; resolves scheduling conflicts and authorizes modifications as appropriate.
Reserves specialty equipment as requested for procedures.
Understands and follows policies and procedures of scheduling; e.g., blocked time and length of procedures, including case set-up and turn-around time.
Uses OR information system (SIS) to maintain surgical schedule. Inputs data accurately to maintain information that is the source of Operating Room statistics. Print out copies of surgery schedule on a daily basis.
Enters charges into information systems accurately. Maintains implant log books; validates all implants and consumable products have been identified and charged.
Notifies Plant Operations and/or Bio-Med Department of any equipment needing repair; completes Work Order Request.
Functions as a unit receptionist.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Additional business courses beyond high school.
- Completion of a Medical Terminology Course.
- 2 plus years of experience in a health care setting.
