Shift Requirements:
- Will work one weekday evening a week: 5PM-9PM
- Every other weekend is required: rotating 7AM-3PM and 3PM-11PM
Purpose:
Under the general direction of the Poison Center program Manager and Director, and general supervision of the toxicology Pharmacists, and toxicology nurses, the Pharmacy intern will perform a wide variety of functions to support the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients at UPMC. These services will be provided in compliance with state and federal regulations, the Joint Commission Standards and the mission and policies of the hospital and departments. The internship provides a hands-on experience and a challenging environment to progressively develop the operational and clinical skills to grow in the field of pharmacy.
Responsibilities:
- Answering toxicology calls and giving recommendations to callers under the guidance of a specialized toxicology nurse or pharmacist
- Assists the pharmacist with medication review, including but not limited to monitoring allergies and evaluating drug interactions.
- Where applicable, complete clinical workload documentation (manual or electronic) by the end of each scheduled shift in accordance with Department procedures.

- Good standing in an accredited School of Pharmacy, entering P1 year or above.
- The candidate must possess good communication and computer skills.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
- Pennsylvania State Board of Pharmacy Intern License required
