This temporary position is located in Raleigh - Wake County.
Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $20.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).
This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Environmental Quality. This position is located at 1034 Bragg St, Raleigh, NC 27610.
This Medical Laboratory Technician position is primarily responsible for phlebotomy services at the NCCIW Hospital. The incumbent will perform blood draws and specimen collection on adult female patients within a correctional healthcare setting, ensuring quality, safety, and adherence to medical standards. In addition to specimen collection, the technician may assist in the preparation of specimens for transport, perform select routine laboratory tests under supervision, and maintain accurate records of all collections. This role is critical in supporting diagnostic efforts by ensuring timely and proper sample collection and handling. The technician works under the general supervision of licensed laboratory personnel or a facility administrator.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

1. Knowledge
- Considerable knowledge of phlebotomy procedures, specimen handling protocols, and universal precautions.
- Awareness of laboratory hazards and infection control measures, especially in correctional healthcare settings.
- Basic understanding of physiological processes relevant to routine specimen testing.
2. Skills
- Skilled in venipuncture and capillary blood collection techniques, including challenging patient populations.
- Proficient in using laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, specimen transport systems, and labeling tools.
- Skilled in maintaining accurate records, including labeling, documentation, and specimen tracking.
3. Abilities
- Ability to perform phlebotomy procedures safely, compassionately, and with minimal discomfort to the patient.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate’s degree in medical technology from an appropriately accredited institution or completion of a certified laboratory assistant course in medical technology or a comparable course from an accredited institution; or
High school or General Educational Development diploma and two years of medical laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
