Help Kids Fall in Love With Piano Through Structure, Support, and Real Connection
Piano Lab is a small, woman-owned studio in Maple Grove that’s growing fast and still very much a work in progress. We’re modern. We’re inclusive. We’re a little messy. And we’re building something special, one system and one student at a time.
This is your chance to get in on the ground floor of a business that’s doing things differently and make it better with us. Our founder (that’s me, Becca) is actively looking for someone thoughtful, emotionally steady, and genuinely kind to help shape this next chapter with care, clear eyes, and follow-through.
If you love kids, live for clarity, and can handle a little chaos with grace, keep reading. This could become a full-time or leadership role within the year for the right person.
The Role: What You’ll Do
You’ll lead Accelerated Lab, our signature small-group class for students ages 6–15. Each student works at their own station with headphones, video lessons, and a checklist. Your job is to keep the room focused and moving, giving each child meaningful attention and real feedback.
During lessons, you’ll:
- Greet students warmly and set a calm, confident tone
- Keep your eyes on posture, attention, and effort (we train you to spot the details)
- Coach students individually 3–4 times per class
- Help them film a short end-of-class video
- Post weekly goals on Seesaw (short and clear)
You’ll also help us improve the actual systems we use, so if you’re someone who likes making things work better, there’s a place for that here.
This is not a place to just supervise or play piano for fun. We’re looking for someone who can hold boundaries with love, talk clearly to 6-year-olds, and truly understand what it means to help a kid feel safe, seen, and capable.
What Success Looks Like After 90 Days
- You’re confidently leading 3–5 students per class, checking in with each 3–4 times
- You’re posting videos and goals in Seesaw without reminders
- You’re spotting when systems break and bringing practical ideas to improve them
- Students trust you, families appreciate your updates, and you’re a calm presence even on messy days
What It’s Like to Work Here
We’re small, scrappy, and always refining. Nothing here is cookie-cutter, and that means your ideas matter. We care deeply, speak kindly, and try hard.
We believe:
- Structure creates freedom
- Boundaries are a gift
- People do better when they feel safe
With this job, you’ll:
- Teach in person (no travel or house calls)
- Be paid for all your time including teaching, prep, and communication
- Use tools that actually support your teaching like Seesaw and checklists
- Have a consistent weekly schedule that stays steady
- Be part of a team that is thoughtful, hardworking, and solution-minded
Schedule & Hours
- Afternoons and evenings only (typically 3:30 to 8:30 PM)
- Start with 8 to 16 hours per week
- Possible to grow into full-time salaried role if desired
Required
- 2+ years experience working with kids (teaching, camps, classrooms, or group settings)
- Strong sight-reading skills (especially teacher duets)
- Comfort using tech like iPads, Seesaw, and Google Drive
- A deep respect for children and a steady presence
- Ability to hold boundaries with kindness (we do not bribe, shame, or raise our voices)
- Strong communication skills with both kids and parents
- A growth mindset and a history of receiving feedback well
- Commitment to stick around at least 1 year
Bonus Points If You:
- Are a parent, former classroom teacher, or trained in child development
- Have spent serious time with kids in real life (not just in theory)
- Are never found gossipping or complaining because you're too busy figuring out what would help
- Have done your own inner work and stay steady when a kid is spiraling
- Love the challenge of creating clarity in a room full of chaos
- Take feedback as care, not criticism
- Are more of a figure-it-out person than a why-is-this-happening one
Why This Is a Rare Opportunity
- You’ll be part of a studio that’s rebuilding with intention. You won’t be forced to follow outdated methods or keep quiet when something could work better
- We’re small enough that your voice matters and growing fast enough that your ideas can turn into real systems
- Our founder is actively looking for someone to grow with. This isn’t just another teaching job. It’s a chance to help shape a business that’s built around clarity, kindness, and emotional safety for kids and staff
- The right teacher could grow into a leadership or full-time role within 6 to 12 months
We don’t need perfect. We need a committed, clear-eyed, warm-hearted human who wants to build something that lasts. If that’s you, we’d love to meet you.
