Title: Primary Care Biller
Location: Santa Clarita, CA
Job Type / Schedule: Full-time / On-site position - Monday to Friday
Hours: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Primary Care Biller to join our healthcare organization. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely billing and reimbursement for primary care services. This role involves processing claims, verifying insurance information, resolving billing issues, and working collaboratively with clinical and administrative staff to support the financial operations of the practice.
Essential Job Functions for Primary Care Billing
- Fundamental understanding of coding (CPT and ICD-10) and documentation requirements for both billing and compliance
- Fundamental understanding of the billing submission process
- Coordinates with staff to get charge information for all patients
- Gathers and verifies all information required to produce a clean claim, including special billing procedures that may be defined by a payer or contract
- Code claims and submit to the payers electronically
- Review claims, review denials with insurances on denials, correct claims and re-submit
- Follow up with insurance and patients on payments and all collections
- Review weekly Aging claims and collections
- Keep the billing system and reports up to date
- Perform Medi-Cal and Medicare reviews
- Conduct audits
Qualifications
- High school diploma or associate’s/bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or a related field (preferred)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing, preferably in a primary care setting
- Proficient in ICD-10 and HCPCS coding
- Knowledge of EHR systems, medical portals, Availity, and other relevant platforms
- Strong understanding of insurance guidelines, including Medicare and Medicaid
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Maintains strict confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations
- Proficiency in operating relevant computer software, including working knowledge of applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and EMR systems
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential
Skills
- Proficiency in medical coding, billing, and collection processes is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, including ICD-10 and ICD-9 coding systems.
- Ability to meet and maintain production and accuracy metrics
