Process Engineer/ Senior Process Engineer
Job description
Job Purpose
Provide hands-on process engineering, technical audit and manufacturing support to ensure safe, reliable and efficient plant operations. The role supports troubleshooting, process optimization, product quality, safe plant modifications and cost reduction, while coordinating with licensors and vendors and preparing technical and financial stewardship reports.
Overall Responsibilities
- Plant monitoring and troubleshooting: Monitor operating indices, conduct technical audits and investigate process upsets and quality deviations; recommend corrective actions to close safety, efficiency and reliability gaps.
- Reactors and furnaces: Evaluate and optimize furnace and reactor performance, including fluidized-bed reactors and oxidation processes; monitor catalyst performance, conversion, selectivity, heat transfer and energy efficiency.
- Separation processes: Monitor and optimize distillation/rectification columns, liquid-liquid extraction and concentration systems to improve separation efficiency, product recovery, product quality and operating cost.
- Engineering studies: Perform heat and material balances, process simulations, hydraulic studies and equipment evaluations for reactors, columns, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors and associated utilities.
- Cost and energy management: Track raw-material, catalyst, chemical and utility consumption; maintain production and energy balances, reconcile consumption and identify opportunities to reduce variable cost and process losses.
- Plant modifications and CAPEX: Identify safety, reliability and debottlenecking projects; develop feasibility studies, business cases and technical scopes, and support implementation and performance verification.
- Process safety: Support MOC, HAZOP/PHA, risk assessments and PSSR. Review process safeguards, chemical compatibility and operating limits to address reaction hazards and other process safety risks.
- Engineering documentation: Maintain current Process Safety Information (PSI), PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications and control philosophies; ensure modifications comply with applicable codes, standards and licensor requirements.
- Technical coordination: Work with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and Laboratory teams; correspond with licensors and vendors, evaluate technical proposals and support turnarounds, commissioning, startups and shutdowns.
- Planning and reporting: Prepare daily monitoring, performance and stewardship reports; support production planning, budgets, forecasts, month-end reconciliation and timely SAP updates, and escalate technical concerns to management.
Experience Requirements & Competencies
Education and experience: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering with 3–8 years of relevant process engineering experience in oil and gas, refinery, petrochemical, fertilizer or chemical manufacturing plants.
Relevant process exposure: Practical experience in one or more areas such as furnaces, fluidized-bed reactors, distillation/rectification columns, oxidation reactions or liquid-liquid extraction.
Technical capability: Hands-on process calculations and troubleshooting, with proficiency in Aspen HYSYS and working knowledge of Aspen EDR, KORF, KG-TOWER, PIPEFLOW or equivalent engineering tools.
Professional attributes: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, clear communication, teamwork and ethical professional conduct.
