Summary of Position
A Qualified Behavioral Health Assistant (QBHA) is an individual with professional experience in promoting behavioral health and mental health wellness and providing community members with education regarding life management. A Nexus QBHA actively provides training and support to promote community integration, enhance social skills, facilitate access to behavioral/mental health and social resources, and supports the development of essential life management abilities. QBHAs provide wellness planning, strength-based case management, as well as vital crisis management. And above all, a QBHA’s primary role is to alleviate barriers to success and empower individuals with knowledge and skills to shape their own future.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Skills Training and Development Services
· Foster community membership by providing training and support to help individuals establish and sustain their involvement as valued members of the community
· Enhance social functioning skills by promoting the development of practical social skills to improve overall social interactions and lessen limitations to successful community engagement
· Assist clients in accessing and navigating behavioral health and mental health related services as well as an array of social resources
· Provide training and support in skill development related to finding and maintaining stable housing, consistent employment, and other necessary aspects of life management
· Maintain appropriate boundaries with clients relative to the Qualified Behavioral Health Assistant paraprofessional role
· Attend regular Nexus Team meetings to discuss client cases and provide feedback
· Attend twice-monthly clinical supervision meetings
Crisis Intervention Services
· Provide immediate mental health crisis interventions and de-escalate the situation
· Assess risks and dangers of a crisis situation
· Determine the risk of suicide or danger to others
· Access and utilize support and guidance
· Facilitate admission to higher levels of care and carry out warm hand-offs
· Report and document crisis situations and the outcomes in accordance with supervisor instructions, Nexus policy, mandated reporting requirements, and the BHA’s critical incident reporting procedures
Documentation
· Ensure that client contact is documented in a timely manner as required by the Nexus Independent Contractor Agreement
· Write and submit chart notes and invoices in a timely manner as required by the Nexus Independent Contractor Agreement
Education Requirements
· High School Diploma or GED—required
Experience
· Actively engaged in his/her own recovery program with a minimum of one (1) year demonstrated personal recovery and sustained abstinence from alcohol and/or drug use with no relapses—required
· A minimum of one (1) year experience working in behavioral health or substance use disorder settings in a front-line capacity—required
Licenses and Certifications
· Qualified Behavioral Health Assistant Certificate issued by the Colorado Community College System—required
· Qualified Behavioral Health Assistant II Certificate issued by the Colorado Community College System—preferred
Driving Requirements
· Valid driver’s license
· Proof of motor vehicle insurance
· No more than two moving violations in the past three years

· Strong understanding of ethical and legal issues specific to behavioral/mental health care settings
· Strong understanding of behavioral health and healthcare systems
· Effective oral and written communication skills
· Empathy and healthy boundaries
· Cultural competency and trauma-informed care competencies
· Knowledge of local resources and system navigation
· Mental health crisis and intervention skills
· Ability to use and understand health information technology
Job Type: Contract
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 30 per week
