Red Wolf Field Crew Member – Red Wolf Recovery Program (Non AC)
Location: Manteo/Nags Head, NC and surrounding areas of Eastern NC (Beaufort, Dare, Hyde, Tyrrell, and Washington counties)
Status: Full-time, Seasonal
Schedule: Primarily Monday–Friday during the day; flexible schedule may periodically include weekends/holidays
Start Date: October 12, 2025
End Date: April 17, 2026
Pay: $20 per hour/40 hours per week
Travel Stipend: $1,000
Housing: Provided at no cost (shared room in bunkhouse in Nags Head)

Organizational Summary
The mission of Conservation Corps North Carolina (CCNC) is to empower young adults through meaningful outdoor work that benefits North Carolina’s land and water and creates healthy communities. CCNC is a program of Conservation Legacy that partners with public land managers to engage motivated young adults (ages 18–30) in conservation service projects. These projects provide personal and professional development while delivering tangible results for public lands, endangered species, and ecosystem restoration across North Carolina.
Position Summary
Conservation Corps North Carolina, in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), is seeking a Red Wolf Field Crew Member to assist with the Red Wolf Recovery Program in Eastern North Carolina. This position is an exciting opportunity to support the recovery of one of the most endangered canids in the world. The Field Crew Member will gain hands-on experience in wildlife conservation, telemetry tracking, captive animal care, enclosure maintenance, and land stewardship. This role will include a blend of fieldwork, technical skills development, and exposure to federal land management operations.
Responsibilities
- Feed and care for captive red wolves and temporarily held wild canids, including cleaning pens, observing behavior, administering food and medications
- Conduct radio telemetry tracking and map wild canid movements using GPS and GIS tools
- Review camera footage and record red wolf sightings, scat, and tracks
- Assist in handling and processing of canids (physical restraint, health checks, vaccines, and data collection)
- Perform maintenance and repair of acclimation pens and fencing
- Communicate concerns related to animal health, safety, or infrastructure to USFWS staff
- Assist with additional field and research support as directed

Qualifications
Required
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license; insurable driving record
- Willingness to work outdoors in cold, hot, buggy, or wet conditions
- Willing to work flexible hours. Could potentially periodically include nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a small team
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
Preferred
- Possess or working towards a bachelor’s degree in wildlife management, biology, ecology, or natural resource management
- Experience with radio telemetry, GIS software, or remote sensing cameras
- Experience handling or caring for wildlife
- Familiarity with basic tools and fencing repairs
- Passion for endangered species conservation
Additional Requirements
- Must pass a National Sex Offender Public Registry and federal background check
- Must adhere to CCNC prohibited activity policies and USFWS safety protocols
- PPE and training will be provided; strict adherence to safety guidelines is mandatory
