Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Business, Public Administration, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Organizational Development, or a related field, and two (2) years of experience in program or project management, program support, strategic planning, or business process improvement.
Licenses and Certificates: Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state by the date of appointment.
General Purpose
Typical Duties
Complete assigned special projects. Involves: Planning and consulting with managers or other technical experts in specific subject areas to obtain clarification of expected results. Coordinate with stakeholders and user department personnel during every phase of the project, meeting stakeholder expectations, and coordinating cross-departmental project team activities. Gather, enter, and analyze data by generating, compiling, and maintaining tracking systems. Develop data analysis systems, compile and evaluate data, develop statistical data, and prepare reports. Distribute reports, maintain and update the filing system, and keep records and reports.
Plan, organize, and oversee special events and programs. Involves: Coordinating the event planning process, contract negotiation, vendor selection, and setup. Arrange for staff, equipment, or services such as catering, security, equipment rental, or entertainment necessary to execute events and programs. Train, direct, and supervise staff and/or volunteers for events and programs. Set up or arrange for the setup and teardown of events, depending on the size and scope of the event. Oversee the purchase of all necessary supplies for events and programs. Monitor events and programs in progress and resolve problems that arise.
Represent the department and communicate effectively. Involves: Participate in task forces, plan and organize special events, coordinate, schedule, and maintain a calendar of appointments, make travel arrangements, and prepare itineraries. Represent the portfolio or department at community and interagency meetings and forums. Coordinate work projects with department divisions, other City departments, and other governmental agencies. Assist with the preparation and making of public presentations, responding to public information inquiries, reviewing citizen complaints, and preparing authorized responses. This includes interpreting administrative policies in unprecedented situations, recommending courses of action to supervisors or directing them to the proper division or department, and following up on complaints to ensure timely resolution.
Supervise assigned staff. Involves: Schedule, assign, instruct, guide, and check work. Appraise employee performance and review evaluations by subordinates. Provide for training and development; enforce personnel regulations and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Counsel, motivate, and maintain harmony. Interview applicants and recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, or other employee status changes.
