Position Summary
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world’s preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.
The Visitor Services department is seeking part-time Reservations Representatives. The Reservations Representative’s primary function is to provide excellent customer service while answering incoming calls and inquiries. They sell Museum admission and program tickets to the public, tour operators and group leaders. Additionally, they provide accurate information while answering inquiries from all, including Museum staff.
Job duties include:
The Visitor Services department is seeking part-time Reservations Representatives. The Reservations Representative’s primary function is to provide excellent customer service while answering incoming calls and inquiries. They sell Museum admission and program tickets to the public, tour operators and group leaders. Additionally, they provide accurate information while answering inquiries from all, including Museum staff.
Job duties include:
- Create reservations on behalf of the Museum over the phone, providing a positive experience for all callers by answering a wide range of questions. Enhance the visitor’s experience and present the Museum as an educational environment.
- Provide additional information to visitors and potential visitors about the Museum. Perform clerical tasks such as email and faxing materials as requested.
- Book group visits and suggest itineraries using the Tessitura ticketing system. Help visitors make the best use of their time while in the Museum.
- Make outbound calls related to upcoming Museum programs.
- Maintain availability to work weekends and holidays.
The expected salary for the Reservations Representative is $21.50/hour. This position is overtime-eligible.
Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two years experience in a high-volume customer service environment or call center.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Museum ticketing systems and organization programs.
- Excellent communication and computer skills.
- Ability to articulate thoughts clearly (including over the phone), retain information and maintain patience.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to move about the Museum campus.
