Base Pay: $245,175.00 - $277,154.00 / year
JOB SUMMARY
Provide quality medical care in a compassionate and caring environment. Work as an integral part of the medical staff by participating in all strategic initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to after-hours call, weekend clinics, supervision of PA/NP staff, supervision of medical residents, supervision of medical students and inpatient care with possible obstetrical care if applicable. Serve as an Academic Advisor to the Family Medicine residents and meet ACGME administrative requirements for Core Faculty. Serve on appropriate outside agencies, hospital and clinic committees as assigned and be responsible for aspects of the Residency curriculum to help fulfill ACGME requirements. Core Faculty members have a significant role in the education and supervision of residents and must devote a significant portion of their entire effort to resident education and/or administration, and must, as a component of their activities, teach, evaluate, and provide formative feedback to residents. Inpatient attending coverage at Mercy Hospital is a requirement for this position.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Core Faculty have a significant role in the education and supervision of residents and a significant portion of their time is used for administration to the program to fulfill scholarly activity, teaching, evaluation and formative feedback to residents.
- Core Faculty members, in aggregate and excluding program leadership, are provided with administrative support time per ACGME requirements to fulfill educational and administrative responsibilities that do not involve direct patient care.
- Inpatient attending coverage is a requirement of this position with exact number of weeks per year to be determined by the program need.
- Take appropriate history, perform physical examination of patients, order pertinent diagnostics and implement appropriate therapy according to standard medical practice.
- Obtain appropriate consults when problems presented are outside scope of practice or when unfamiliar with a particular aspect of the patient’s care.
- Communicate effectively with the patient throughout the physician patient relationship, provide appropriate patient education and demonstrate respect for the culturally determined needs of patients.
- Shows consistent and determined intent to be competent, meeting or exceeding the community standard of care.
- Demonstrate competent knowledge in delivering health care to patients through peer review as established through the medical staff bylaws, recommendations of each licensing Board, and clinic Quality improvement Program. Participates in the peer Contribution, carefully considering the opinions of colleagues.
- Cooperates with the rest of the medical staff in assuring after hours and Saturday and evening hour’s coverage for the clinic patients.
- Complies with other facility regulations if providing inpatient or maternity care and always represents SCHC in other facilities in a professional manner.
- Supervise Medical Residents, Medical Students, PA’s and FNP’s according to the standardized procedures agreed upon which defines their scope of practice while complying with all federal and state regulations and codes, along with complying with all ACGME requirements.
- Supports and contributes to in a positive manner clinic effort to maintain and improve patient satisfaction in all aspects of health delivery.
- Works at maximum potential to meet productivity requirements to improve fiscal viability while maintaining quality medical care.
- Meets all time commitments by arriving on time to the clinic and working entire shift or more as needed.
- Become an integral part of the medical staff through participation in medical staff and other clinic meetings.
- Comply with Title 22 regulations regarding health care and infectious disease.
- Serve as an Academic Advisors to Medical Residents.
- Attend Residency meetings and trainings as assigned (ERAS, New Innovations, ABFM, ACGME, CA medical Board).
- Manage and design curriculum to meet ACGME requirements for the Family Medicine Program.
- Meet all ACGME requirements for administrative time to perform duties including advising, mentoring, curriculum development, lectures, scholarly activity.
- Maintain committee membership in hospital, clinic, statewide, regional and national organizations as applicable to assist in maintaining scholarly activity requirements for the ACGME Family Medicine program.
- Performs other duties within the scope of practice as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Completion of a nationally accredited Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program.
- California license upon hire and maintain current without any limitations on license to practice in area of specialty.
- Must be in good standing with the California State Licensing Board.
- CPR certification upon hire and maintain current.
- Must have hospital privileges at Mercy Hospital (and other hospitals as applicable) and maintain all required credentials for hospital privileges.
- Maintain all required certifications for hospital and clinic privileges including ACLS, BLS, PALS, and NRP.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous outpatient clinic experience working with indigent population preferred.
- Hospital experience in adults and pediatric patients.
