KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Develop, implement, and oversee all aspects of the company’s health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, conduct safety training, perform site inspections, lead incident investigations.
- Promote a culture of safety across all Hardy commercial HVAC and plumbing projects and work sites.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, update, and enforce the company’s safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
- Maintain and submit all required HSE documentation and reporting.
- Review and analyze HSE metrics and provide actionable recommendations.
- Instruct, lead, and mentor Safety department employees, including guiding professional development.
- Design, coordinate, and deliver HSE training programs for field and office personnel, including OSHA 10- hour and 30-hour courses, fall protection, confined space entry, lockout/tag out, PPE, first aid, CPR, blood borne pathogens, rigging and signaling, hazard communication, and any other required training.
- Conduct new hire and contractor safety orientations in coordination with the Safety Coordinator and Human Resources.
- Maintain records of all HSE-related training activities and certifications.
- Conduct regular site safety inspections and audits on active job sites to identify potential hazards.
- Work with project managers, foremen, and subcontractors to correct safety violations or deficiencies.
- Monitor subcontractor safety performance and ensure adherence to project-specific safety plans.
- Manage work-related illness and injury cases, including injury and illness reporting.
- Lead investigations of workplace accidents, injuries, and near misses.
- Prepare root cause analyses HSE-related incidents, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain OSHA logs and assist with claims management in coordination with HR and insurance providers.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through employee engagement, recognition programs, and open communication.
- Coordinate, lead or participate in weekly toolbox safety talks.
- Lead monthly safety committee meetings.
- Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies and clients regarding HSE-related matters.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA 1926 construction standards.
- Experience with training development and delivery.
- Valid Star ID and unencumbered driver’s license.
- Ability to travel to job sites and obtain and maintain clearance to enter government and military facilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare professional responses and notices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel
- Experience with project management and safety management software preferred.
- First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in HSE field of study preferred.
- CHST, CSP, or other safety certifications preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of construction safety experience, preferable in commercial HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical trades required.
