Role Overview
The Senior Manager, EHS provides leadership, oversight, and commitment to the development, implementation, and administration of Environmental, Health, and Safety management systems and compliance initiatives supporting Mitsubishi Power NGS internal and external customers. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, company standards, and customer requirements; delivers training programs; oversees incident investigations; and supports timely corrective actions. The Senior Manager serves as a key EHS advisor to project teams and business leaders across North and South America while driving continuous improvement, audit readiness, and consistent safety practices across field service operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and own plant arrangement philosophy for Simple Cycle and Combined Cycle power plants.
- Establish and lead a continuous Environmental, Health, and Safety process improvement program across NGS operations.
- Interpret regulatory, company, and customer requirements; audit site activities; and advise project teams on actions required to maintain safe and compliant worksites.
- Review site-specific health and safety plans annually and incorporate policy changes, lessons learned, and customer requirements in coordination with EHS teams.
- Identify gaps in EHS policies, procedures, and processes and develop measurable communication and improvement plans.
- Educate Project Management Team members on site-specific requirements for projects without full-time EHS coverage.
- Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis activities where dedicated EHS support is not assigned, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are implemented promptly.
- Communicate incident findings, lessons learned, and improvement actions to appropriate stakeholders and drive completion across assigned teams.
- Participate in pre-outage customer meetings to align EHS expectations for Mitsubishi Power NGS scopes of work.
- Support ISO 45001 compliance as a Field Service liaison and participate in internal and external audits across NGS departments.
- Support Houston operations through site visits, site-specific safety planning, annual training, and tooling inspection compliance assessments.
- Partner with LATAM EHS leadership and business unit leaders throughout North and South America to maintain consistent practices and standards.
- Maintain third-party contractor qualification requirements and passing status with ISNetworld, Avetta, Veriforce, and similar platforms.
- Complete customer safety questionnaires and pre-bid qualification requirements within established timelines.
- Maintain and report PGS safety metrics, including work hours, recordable injuries, TRIR, DART, fiscal-year performance, and historical data.
- Monitor CRM records for accurate safety staffing requirements and maintain 24/7 availability to support emergent site needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, at least ten (10) years of related EHS experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading EHS programs, site compliance activities, audits, incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation in field service, construction, industrial, or power generation environments.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations, customer safety requirements, and management systems such as ISO 45001.
- Experience reviewing site-specific safety plans, conducting compliance audits, delivering training, and advising project teams on safe work practices.
- Ability to track and communicate safety performance metrics, including recordable injuries, TRIR, DART, work hours, and historical trends.
- Ability to read and interpret technical procedures, professional publications, and governmental regulations and prepare clear reports, correspondence, and procedures.
- Strong analytical and reasoning skills with the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Proficiency with database, risk management, project management, spreadsheet, and word-processing software.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to engage employees, customers, project teams, and management at all levels.
- Ability to travel a minimum of 50% by land or air based on customer and business needs and provide 24/7 support for emergent site requirements.
- Ability to meet physical requirements including standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally in industrial environments where personal protective equipment may be required.
