The Arizona Humane Society is looking for a full time dedicated Shelter Surgery Supervisor to lead our high-volume spay and neuter department at our Papago Park Campus. A Day in the Life:

The Shelter Surgery Supervisor will oversee all operational aspects of the Shelter Surgery department. This individual will coordinate activities with other departments to ensure efficient flow and treatment of all animals. They will supervise the shelter surgery team, ensuring that all policies adhere to. They will evaluate, update and implement new/existing policies and procedures to keep Shelter Surgery in adherence to board requirements. They will compile and report all daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly statistical data. They will assist in the preparation of the departmental budget and manage expenses within the budget. They will work with premise holder and lead veterinarian to ensure clinic compliance for all Federal and State licensing.


Job Requirements:

  • High schooldiploma/GED
  • Graduation from a technical school is preferred
  • Minimum two years of practical experience in a high-volume veterinary clinic or animal shelter.
  • Minimum one year of supervisory experience.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and balance multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication skills are needed.
  • Should have good interpersonal skills and be able to resolve conflicts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Explorer; able to learn other software programs as necessary.
  • Supervise, train, and direct the activities of the technicians in Shelter Surgery.
  • Regularly evaluate procedures to determine opportunities for improvement and ensure that department goals are achieved.
  • Determine staffing needs including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, scheduling, coaching, counseling, payroll, and team evaluations.
  • Work with the team to develop individual development plans and goals.
  • Oversee daily procedures, treatments, and medications of animals in the surgery ward.
  • Perform technician duties with the team.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Physical Demands/Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to hear above the sound of the animals.

There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes; occasional wet floors, and animal noises, odors and dander. Most time will be spent in a typical air conditioned and heated office environment.
