MOMentum Park’s SHERO NOLA is dedicated to improving maternal and infant outcomes for Black mothers and families by fostering a supportive SHERO Sisterhood. SHERO (“Shaping Healthy Equitable Reproductive Outcomes”) is our signature program and integrates medicine, public health, and technology to create equitable solutions in maternal care. Our vision is to advance equity by eliminating the Black maternal and infant mortality crisis across the U.S., starting here in New Orleans.
Position Summary
The SHERO NOLA Squad Member is a frontline role providing culturally responsive, compassionate support for pregnant and postpartum individuals. Working primarily from home with regular community engagement, Squad Members carry a caseload of participants, offering a mix of virtual support, in-person outreach, and resource navigation. This role requires comfort with technology, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to bring humor and warmth to conversations with moms.
Essential Functions
Community Outreach
- Identify and engage with pregnant and postpartum individuals in New Orleans in need of support
- Co-support SHERO participants and connect them with community resources.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and community organizations (e.g., WIC, Healthy Start, Medicaid, housing programs) to ensure comprehensive support.
Perinatal Education, Support & Advocacy
- Provide information on pregnancy, postpartum care, breastfeeding, nutrition, and infant care.
- Offer emotional and social support while advocating for moms and families.
- Increase awareness of SHERO through social media engagement and other outreach methods.
Caseload & Direct Support
- Manage a caseload of moms, ensuring their needs are consistently met.
- Conduct virtual check-ins and community-based visits as needed.
- Build trust, provide guidance, and bring a sense of humor and ease to interactions with participants.
Technology Use
- Use the SHERO powered by Birth By Us platform and Typeform for data collection and case tracking.
- Engage participants and amplify SHERO visibility via social media (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube).
- Maintain accurate digital records and complete weekly updates.
Program Support
- Participate in SHERO events, pop-ups, and community meetups.
- Contribute feedback, ideas, and creativity in SHERO’s Lean Startup model, where iteration and adaptability are key.
- Collaborate with SHERO staff, perinatal health workers, and healthcare professionals to strengthen impact.
Qualifications
- Strong commitment to improving maternal and infant health outcomes, particularly for Black women and families.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with cultural sensitivity.
- Tech-savvy; comfortable with digital tools, social media, and data entry platforms.
- Ability to manage time independently in a flexible work environment.Reliable internet access and transportation.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in maternal health, community health, or social services.
- Certification or training as a doula, perinatal health worker, or similar.
- Familiarity with local maternal health resources in New Orleans.
- Knowledge of health equity principles and culturally responsive care.
