The Site Superintendent serves as the face of the company on the job site, representing our company’s values, professionalism, and technical expertise to the customer, subcontractors, and all stakeholders. This role is critical to project success and requires a confident, capable, and solutions-oriented leader who can maintain control of the job site while fostering strong relationships with field teams and client personnel. Superintendents are responsible for day-to-day management of field operations on federal construction projects, including VA Medical Centers and other highly regulated environments. They must ensure all work is completed safely, on schedule, and in full compliance with project drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
The Superintendent will coordinate subcontractors, enforce safety standards, manage quality, and maintain job site organization and communication. This role requires a proactive mindset, technical knowledge, and a high level of personal accountability. When a dedicated SSHO is not present, the Superintendent will assume full SSHO responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee all daily field operations at the project site to ensure safe, high-quality, and timely execution of work in accordance with contract requirements.
- Serve as the primary on-site point of contact, maintaining clear, respectful communication with the client, subcontractors, vendors, and internal team members.
- Review and maintain a working knowledge of project drawings, specifications, and submittals as uploaded in Procore; proactively reference these documents to ensure field work complies with project requirements.
- Perform site verification audits upon mobilization to validate existing field conditions against project drawings and highlight any discrepancies.
- Enforce all safety protocols and ensure site compliance with OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and project-specific Accident Prevention Plans (APPs).
- When a dedicated SSHO is not assigned to the project, the Superintendent shall assume full SSHO responsibilities, including daily safety inspections, documentation, and incident reporting.
- Coordinate daily subcontractor work activities to align with the project schedule and quality standards.
- Conduct daily safety briefings, verify that all workers meet site-specific training and PPE requirements, and correct deficiencies immediately.
- Maintain a clean and organized job site, managing logistics, equipment placement, material staging, and waste disposal.
- Submit accurate and timely daily reports in Procore, including manpower counts, work progress, photos, delivery logs, safety observations, and weather conditions.
- Participate in weekly project calls and on-site meetings, providing updates on field status, safety, schedule, and coordination item.
- Work effectively within federal contracting protocols, including quality assurance practices outlined in project specifications, VA Construction Standards, and FAR/VAAR compliance.
- Track material deliveries and coordinate directly with suppliers and vendors to avoid delays or errors in field execution.
- Monitor project schedule milestones; identify and escalate delays or issues to the Project Manager with recommendations for resolution.
- Conduct regular quality control walkthroughs, ensure corrective actions are implemented, and support the closeout of punch list items.
- Assist the Project Manager in reviewing RFIs, submittals, and coordination issues as needed from the field perspective.
- Lead field operations with professionalism, representing core values and commitment to client satisfaction on all federal sites.
- Perform other job site responsibilities as assigned to support successful project completion.
EDUCATION & SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of field leadership experience in federal construction or complex mechanical/plumbing projects.
- Procore Certification – Project Manager (Core Tools) required prior to mobilization; must demonstrate proficiency in daily logs, drawings, submittals, RFIs, and photos modules.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification required; additional EM 385-1-1 or VA safety training is a plus.
- Ability to confidently navigate and update project documentation using a laptop or iPad in real time.
- Strong working knowledge of construction plans, specifications, submittals, and contract documents.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and coordination skills; must be able to lead subcontractors, speak confidently with government clients, and maintain a solutions-oriented mindset.
- Familiarity with VA construction environments, federal quality control practices, and site logistics management.
- Proven ability to enforce safety standards, conduct inspections, and maintain accurate and timely field documentation.
- Self-motivated and disciplined; capable of managing daily operations with minimal oversight while maintaining alignment with the Project Manager and Operations leadership.

Pay: $92,000.00 - $112,000.00 per year
