This position is a contract role for the Clinical Research Department
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Sleep Technologist exclusively for our sleep research team. This position is centered around conducting and analyzing sleep studies, ensuring accurate diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. This role involves working closely with Providers, Respiratory Therapists, and patients to facilitate high-quality sleep testing, CPAP therapy compliance, and patient education. The ideal candidate must have strong clinical judgment, technical expertise, and the ability to follow protocols without deviation while maintaining excellent patient care.
Night hours for sleep studies and day hours for research, as needed
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct a variety of sleep studies within clinical research settings, including polysomnography (PSG diagnostics), CPAP/BiPAP titration, home sleep apnea testing (HSAT), and other research-specific tests such as Multiple Sleep Latency Tests (MSLT) and Maintenance of Wakefulness Tests (MWT). polysomnography (PSG diagnostics), CPAP/BiPAP titration, home sleep apnea testing (HSAT), multiple sleep latency tests (MSLT), Positive Airway Pressure NAP (PAP-NAP), and maintenance of wakefulness tests (MWT).
- Monitor, record, and analyze physiological parameters during sleep studies, including EEG, EKG, EMG, airflow, oxygen saturation, and respiratory effort as part of ongoing clinical research studies.
- Recognize and respond to sleep-related events, such as apnea, hypopnea, and arrhythmias, per AASM guidelines.
- Ensure all sleep studies are properly scored and documented for Providers’ review.
- Educate patients on sleep disorders, CPAP/BiPAP usage, and sleep hygiene.
- Assist in mask fittings, troubleshooting, and adherence monitoring.
- Address patient concerns with common sense and professionalism to ensure a positive experience.
- Coordinate with the remote call support team to address patient queries regarding sleep study results, appointments and DME orders.
- Ensure proper documentation of data and follow-up recommendations.
- Set up, calibrate, and maintain sleep study equipment to ensure accurate readings.
- Ensure all devices, including CPAP, BiPAP, and oxygen concentrators, are clean, functional, and calibrated properly.
- Follow OSHA, HIPAA, and AASM standards for infection control, data security, and patient confidentiality.
- Maintain accurate documentation for insurance compliance, billing, and authorization approvals.
- Sort and organize sleep study referrals, prior authorizations, and insurance verifications to prevent delays in testing.
- Ensure all orders, prescriptions, and documentation are completed as per Providers’ instructions.
- Work closely with the billing and DME teams to facilitate accurate claim submissions.
- Follow established checklists and protocols without omission or deviation.
- Assist in maintaining the sleep lab, ensuring cleanliness and efficiency.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned by management to support patient care.
- Follow chain of command for reporting concerns or operational issues.
- Willingness to work at both Fayetteville and Sanford locations as scheduled by management.
Qualifications & Skills
- Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) certification required or eligibility to obtain within a specified period.
- Licensed Sleep Technologist in North Carolina (or eligible for licensure).
- Experience in polysomnography, CPAP therapy, and home sleep apnea testing preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols without deviation.
- Excellent patient education and communication skills.
- Proficiency in EHR systems, remote monitoring platforms, and sleep study scoring software.
- Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a fast-paced medical practice.
Schedule & Work Environment
- Full-time, onsite position - 12-hour shifts x 3 days
- Requires overnight shifts for in-lab sleep studies and daytime hours for day studies as and when needed.
