About the SRJ Hub:

The Sexual and Reproductive Justice Hub (SRJ Hub) at CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy (CUNY SPH) coordinates solutions-oriented scholarship, training, and advocacy, centering the lived experiences of women of color and funding their and other marginalized people’s work.

The SRJ Hub seeks a dynamic and creative Social Media Specialist to lead our digital communications strategy. The ideal candidate is passionate about social justice, public health, and equity, and will play a key role in amplifying the Hub’s mission, research, and events through strategic social media engagement. This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent writing and content creation skills, a deep understanding of various social media platforms, and a commitment to anti-racism and inclusive communication.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with the SRJ Hub’s goals and values.
  • Write, produce, and publish high-quality and compelling, inclusive, and accessible multi-media content (including graphics, posts, videos, etc.) for platforms such as Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on social media performance and engagement metrics; adapt strategy accordingly.
  • Collaborate with researchers, staff, and community partners to highlight projects, publications, events, and milestones.
  • Stay informed of trends in public health, social justice, and digital engagement to inform content and outreach strategies.
  • Ensure all communications reflect a consistent brand voice and adhere to accessibility standards.
  • Respond to social media inquiries and engage with the community in a timely and thoughtful manner.
  • Support live coverage of SRJ Hub events (both virtual and in-person).
  • Manage a content calendar and coordinate with internal teams to meet deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in public health or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience managing social media in a professional setting, preferably in a public health, academic, and/or nonprofit context.
  • Experience in higher education, research, or advocacy organizations.
  • Understanding of public health language, data, and communications best practices.
  • Demonstrated commitment to sexual and reproductive justice.
  • Proficiency in content creation tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and video editing platforms.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and design skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with SEO, analytics tools (e.g., Meta Insights, Google Analytics), and social media scheduling platforms (e.g., Buffer, Hootsuite).
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bilingual or multilingual proficiency.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Provides expertise in digital and visual communications to support and advance the College's multimedia presence.

  • Researches and identifies new multimedia platforms that advance College programs and initiatives
  • Works closely with management to understand and produce effective message elements
  • Creates and aligns various communication work products such as video, digital formats, layouts, graphics, web pages, and microsites to ensure consistency and effective messaging
  • Assesses, enhances and manages the user experience on digital platforms including social media
  • Collaborates with graphic designers, webmasters, and other information technology professionals to create comprehensive broadcast and multimedia communications
  • Procures required internal and external resources and services and manages their utilization
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Salary range: $72,145-80,061
